4 Course policies: grading EVALUATION METHODS FOR BIO 101-02* Final course grades are calculated as follows: 1. LECTURE COMPONENT (75% of course grade) Lecture Exams (60%) Final Exam (20 %) Quizzes & Assignments (20%) 2. LABORATORY COMPONENT (25% of course grade) Lab quizzes and worksheets (100%) Letter grades for the course will be assigned as follows: A= > 90% B= 80-89% C= 70-79% D= 60-69% F= < 60%

6 Registration on ARIS site Choose: First time User? Register now by following this link Enter your passcode and information where indicated to create a user account Enter the section code for BIO 101-02 to be registered for this course

8 Course policies: attendance  Attendance will be recorded using your CPS responder – therefore, you must bring it to every lecture or you may be considered absent. If you do not have your clicker, you are responsible for signing in with the instructor at the beginning of class.

9 Clicker information You will need: –Clicker: available in the bookstore for $21.35 –An internet connection to register your clicker for this course

10 How to register your CPS responder (“clicker”) http://www.einstruction.com Codes you need: –Serial number of your responder (on LCD screen when you turn it on) –Class key: N26359E246 –Enrollment code or coupon – options for BIO 101 are: Bookstore ($20/semester, capped at $66.70 lifetime) Pay online (credit card or check, $13/semester, capped at $35/lifetime)

11 Create an account 1.Go to www.einstruction.comwww.einstruction.com 2.Click on the Students link at the top left of the window. 3.Select MWSU from the drop-down menu. 4.Click Choose Site. 5.Enter your serial number in the space provided. 6.Click Create Your Account. 7.Create a CPSOnline Username and password and fill in your contact information. Click Submit to create your account.

12 Enroll in BIO 101-02 on eInstruction 1.Click Yes to enroll immediately in your class. 2.Enter your Class Key in the space provided. If you have a Code, enter it in the Code box (not required). 3.Click Submit and choose your payment options. Click Continue. 4.Fill in your billing information and click Continue. 5.You can join additional CPSOnline classes by clicking the Enroll in a Class button. 6.Click Log Out once you have finished.

13 Tips for success in this class You will be learning a lot of new vocabulary and concepts –Don’t wait to study until just before the exams! Read assigned readings prior to class Participate! –Active learning strategies: case studies, analysis of data, discussions, student participation

14 Assignments We will cover Chapter 1 on Wednesday and Friday Read p1-14 by Friday PPT posted on ARIS site if you want to print it out for note-taking
