2 Email Etiquette When sending an email, please adhere to the following:
Look at course webpage or Blackboard for information before sending s. Most anything you need will be located there Include a subject line encompassing what the is about Keep the short and to-the-point Sign the with BOTH your first and last name Grades cannot be discussed through

3 Course Calendar Calendar shows dates that lessons will be covered and exam dates and times All homework will be completed and graded online using LON-CAPA. HW usually due at 10PM on day of the next lecture

4 Online Homework All homework will be completed in LON-CAPA. Link to LON-CAPA in Blackboard. Generally, extensions given only in extreme circumstances (see syllabus for more info). Each HW out of 2 points. Lowest HW score dropped at end of semester

5 Assignment Hints Most problems allow 99 submissions
Matching, Yes/No, Multiple Choice and few others have a limited number of submissions

6 More Hints Never approximate an answer unless the questions specifically asks you to, in which case you will be directed how many decimal places to enter (for example, if the answer is 1/3, LON-CAPA will not take 0.33) If you do need to estimate, NEVER round early in the calculations Pay attention to cases (upper and lower) when entering variables Make sure when entering answers in interval notation, they must be written from lowest value to highest value (such as (2,5), NOT (5,2))

7 More Hints See the “Entering Math Expressions in LON-CAPA” PDF in the “Learning with LON-CAPA” folder in LON-CAPA. Take HEAVY advantage of the Piazza forum!!!!!!!! Link in Blackboard To prepare for quizzes/exams, a good tip is to write up HW solutions while working on HW. Certain HW’s, especially later on, can be pretty involving. Review Precalculus Concepts early on, as they will come up later in and only be briefly discussed during lecture.

8 Quizzes 15 quizzes Worth 5 points each INDIVIDUAL QUIZZES!!
If you are caught turning in a quiz for a student that is not in attendance, you will lose all of your quiz points for the semester and a report will be sent to the Dean of Students.

9 Midterm Exams There will be 3 midterm exams in this course. The midterms will last 60 minutes, and are given in the evenings in Elliot Hall. Please mark the following dates for the exams: Monday, September 16th, 8 PM Monday, October 10th, 8 PM Monday, November 11th, 8 PM

10 Exam Conflicts If you have a conflict with one of the exam dates (such as an evening class or another exam), notify the course coordinator ASAP. If you miss the exam and didn’t notify course coordinator in advance, notify her and myself within 24 hours from exam and she MIGHT give you an alternate.

11 Final Exam There will be a comprehensive final exam given during the last week of the semester The date for the final will be announced some time during the semester Do not plan to leave campus early

12 Calculator Policy You will need a 1-line scientific calculator, such as the TI-30XA. Needed for quizzes and exams Check webpage for more specific calculator policy 2-line calculators, programmable calculators, and graphing calculators are NOT allowed.

Location: MATH 211 It will open on sometime later this week MRR Spring Semester Hours Monday-Thursday 10:30AM-5:20PM Friday 10:30AM-2:20PM Can go to MRR even if I’m not there.

16 Academic Adjustments If you have been certified by the Disability Resource Center (DRC) as eligible for academic adjustments on exams or quizzes see for exam and quiz procedures for your mathematics course or go to MATH 202 for paper copies. In the event that you are waiting to be certified by the Disability Resource Center we encourage you to review our procedures prior to being certified. For all in-class accommodations please see your instructors outside class hours -- before or after class or during office hours -- to share your Accommodation Memorandum for the current semester and discuss your accommodations as soon as possible.
