What would children do? A not so scary way to get kids to realize, nuclear war can happen at any time. When you see the flash.. STOP what you’re doing. get down and stay covered. Get under something like a table/desk, lay face down and cover your head with your hands.

What would adults do? Build fallout shelters! A safe place for people to stay to avoid gamma-ray exposure. Built with concrete, earth or sand. Built in basements or backyards. Breathed with fresh air from hand-cranked blower attached by a pipe to filter any bad chemicals out from the surface. Having battery-powered radio was common to get reports of what is happening. Eat a lot of canned foods, crackers, or dry cereals, and drink canned water.

Water was stored in metal 17.5 gallon water barrels. Food came packaged in several different forms such as ration crackers, wafers and carbohydrate supplement (hard candy). Radiation detection kits and medical kits were also kept Sanitation Kit IV Each $ Medical Kit A Each $ RADEF Kit Each $ Water Drum Mtl Storage Each $ Crackers, 5 Gal. Pound $ Biscuits, 5 Gal.
