IB Alumni Relations at a glance

Purpose: a resource for IB graduates from around the world and an opportunity to broadly raise the profile of IB schools The majority of registered IB alumni (though not all) graduated after 2005 when the IB began an effort to establish an alumni network that encompasses all schools and all programmes Registered alumni agree to receive correspondence directly from the IB by providing a valid address and are kept up-to-date through a quarterly newsletter To date, more than 26,000 alumni have registered for the alumni network This includes more than 4,800 alumni from the class of 2012 – and this number is still growing Each year registration peaks in July along with the release of exam results for May candidates Since 2005 approximately 3% of each graduating class of IB diploma programme candidates has chosen to register for the global IB alumni network Alumni network snapshot Page 1

Connecting with Alumni

Alumni driven projects Alumni Advisory Council: Alumni volunteers guiding the development of the overall alumni network The council’s second term began in Sep May 2013 Includes 30+ members broken into regional groups Members collaborate remotely Alumni Chapters Conceptualized in 2012 with the first official chapter in Singapore Developing a framework for alumni to establish local chapters within cities, regions, or universities Focus on networking, volunteer opportunities, mentoring or career/educational opportunities Seeking alumni leaders/champions with enthusiasm for the IB and an interest in establishing chapters with support from the IB Page 3

Adding value to existing IB projects Research Utilize the alumni network to confirm programme value and effectiveness through survey, information gathering, and analysis Recognition Utilizing research, testimonials, and individuals to advocate for stronger recognition policies at universities and governments around the world Fundraising Creating student scholarships, beginning with opportunities for students to attend one of four World Student Conferences in 2013 Conferences and Workshops Opportunities for notable alumni to attend and present at conferences and workshops; share their experience with IB educators and community members Page 4

Continuing growth Continue to grow the number of alumni on record and the quality of the information available for each graduate Build upon alumni contacts, advocates, volunteers, and speakers from a growing number of countries and regions to help raise the profile of all IB schools Continue to develop newsletter, blog, and social media content; encourage contributions from within the IB community Strengthen online resources to serve as a launching point for alumni stakeholders, foster connections, and add value to the network Structured, annual fundraising, recognition, and general alumni network activities to mobilize the alumni community and garner support for all IB schools and programmes Provide the IB community with access to a growing internal library of alumni generated materials including testimonials, articles, and video Page 5
