1 Student and Early Career

2 Accelerate geophysical innovation
Our Priorities Serve a global membership Accelerate geophysical innovation Inspire the geoscientists of tomorrow Engage in sustainable business SEG seeks to strengthen our content for our global members and prepare for changing dynamics of the energy industry while anchoring our core business, geophysics in sound technology transfer among members and SEG. Work with industry and academia to accelerate innovation and technology transfer A sustainable business for SEG would be to encourage not only oil and gas geophysics but engineering and environmental geophysics

3 The Core Of Student Chapters
Sustainable Geosciences program Student driven Leadership Advancement Engagement Awareness SEG encourages student chapters to be active within their university and community with a strong student leadership body to stay sustainable and productive.

4 SEG Global Student Chapters
71 91 65 112 42 381 student chapters in 67 countries SEG student chapter numbers continue to grow every quarter with approval for new student chapters at each SEG Board meeting.

5 Student Chapter Opportunities
Scholarships Field Camp Grants Technical Program Travel Grants SEG/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program Student Chapter Excellence Program Annual Activity Report Base, Ridge, Summit Best Student Chapter - $5000 Travel Award Scholarships range from $500 to $10,000 USD per academic year; The Field Camp program provides grants ranging from $1,000-$20,000 annually per project. Projects must have an impact on the geophysical profession or students of the geosciences. SEG/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium (SLS) focuses on leadership, teamwork, and communication skills building for 50 student participants who are all active officers of their SEG Student Chapters. SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program (SEP) is organized the same way. SEP is a 2½ day short course that prepares college students for the challenges of an oil industry career. The program includes lectures and exercises directly related to geoscience/geophysical work performed in the oil industry. ExxonMobil provides course materials, team exercises and instructors. Both programs cover the expenses for travel, lodging, and registration to SEG's Annual Meeting. Student Chapter Excellence Program awards student chapters for their activities and participation and ranks chapters as Base, Ridge, and Summit levels based on the amount of chapter activities accomplished throughout the year. Only chapters reach Summit level each year.

6 Student Chapter Benefits
Monthly TLE journals Online access to digital library Scholarship and grant opportunities Attend lectures, conferences, and networking events Student chapter excellence program Depending on funding (fluctuates year to year) Most improved chapter program award Student chapter outreach grants As a student member of an SEG chapter, students can apply for various student programs, scholarships, attend SEG lectures, read about the latest research on the digital library and in the TLE’s, and join a global networking society of industry professionals.

7 Student Chapter Faculty Advisors
Faculty Advisors are the critical, constant factor in the successful Student chapter formula. As keepers of the chapter’s past, Faculty Advisors offer a unique view to incoming student leaders. Inform Guide Support

8 Advisor’s Role Promotes enthusiasm Attends meetings
Shares critical information and encourages student involvement Assists the chapter officers Act as an SEG mentor Guides students

9 Early Career Emerging Professionals International Committee (EPIC)
Started in 2014 and growing New professionals with less than 8 years in the industry Global – Poland, Nigeria, China, India, Germany, Norway, Canada, Argentina, Thailand, and USA Networking opportunities SEG also provides new graduates and emerging professionals an avenue to continue receiving benefits along with networking opportunities with other young professionals in the industry. The EPIC committee has members around the world who host events to support local professionals new to the industry. Several EPIC members are on other SEG committees as well.
