The Southeast Campus of City College of San Francisco By Michael N. Manneh

About The Southeast Campus The doors to the Southeast Campus opened in 1987 at 1800 Oakdale Avenue. Southeast also operates programs at two locations in Visitacion Valley and another in Portola area in San Francisco. Two community agencies are housed at the Southeast Campus: both agencies recruit, train, and place youth in jobs.

Course Offerings The Southeast Campus services approximately 2500 students. Southeast offers certificate programs for Hospital Unit Coordinator, Home Health Aide, Hotel Front Desk Operations, Computer Repair and Office Technology. It also offers GED and credit courses for the Health Science, Business English, Child Development, Mathematics, Music, Physical Fitness, Nursing, Drug and Alcohol Studies, Community Health Worker and Biotechnology. Southeast offers the Working Adults Degree Program, (W.A.D.P.) a two year accelerated A. A Degree program.

Faculty/Staff We have a very dedicated, caring and multilingual group of faculty and staff who represent the rich diversity of the San Francisco Community and who know the needs of its neighbors.

Services Southeast Campus offers many services, including the following: The Peer Mentoring and Tutoring program consists of students helping students, with reading, writing, math as well as filling out applications, such as employment and financial aid. State-of-the-art computer labs offering supplemental assistance, and has well informed persons available for assistance. The labs are all internet-access equipped and feature a great deal of valuable software. Counseling Services, where the counselors provide all credit and non-credit students with orientation, initial counseling and educational planning, early alert, interventions, and personal counseling as needed.

Josephine Cole Library The Josephine Cole Library is located on the fifth floor of 1800 Oakdale Avenue. The collection consists of an up-to-date core reference section, as well as books with a strong emphasis in African American studies, English as a second language, basic education, computer applications and technology, and allied health. There are approximately 7,000 holdings and 48 periodicals in the Josephine Cole Library Collection.

Atmosphere Southeast Campus has a friendly family-oriented feeling to it. Because of the campus size, and the returning student body, most everyone knows one another. There is a feeling of comfort, where one can sit and chat in between classes. Southeast is a visually aesthetic campus, as well as clean and well maintained. There are helpful teachers who take the time to help the students and make them feel welcome.

Expansion Plans Expand the Working Adults Degree program in collaboration with CSU SF and/or Hayward for students interested in attaining a baccalaureate. Establish a SEC Career Link program in collaboration with the Department of Human Services and Employment Development Department. Establish a distance learning program as part of the CCSF district-wide education technology Plan. Establish information technology programs leading to certification in a number of key technology fields. Expand the biotechnology courses to serve the Mission Bay biotechnology complex.

The Highlights A talented ensemble of professional, helpful, and multicultural faculty and staff. A great deal of excellent student services, including counseling, financial aid assistance, tutoring, library access and state of the art computer labs. Day and evening credit and non-credit courses taught by knowledgeable, caring, diverse instructors. An active student association The hosting of community events on a regular basis.
