2 Fine Arts Program rated Recognized Students are encouraged to participate in multiple fine arts programs throughout the year to enhance their learning and embrace multicultural experiences. Events such as Fiesta De las Palomas, Mother’s Day Serenade, 5 th Grade Choir and the annual Talent Show allows students to express themselves in multiple areas. Raquel Peña Elementary

3 Wellness and Physical Education Programs rated Recognized Students participate in a comprehensive PE program that aligns to the Fitness Gram requirements. Students apply their physical skills in outside team sports. Peña’s Jaguar Flag Football team made the quarter finals for the local sector. Students also participate in the annual district field day meet as well as the campus field day. Raquel Peña Elementary

4 Community and Parental Involvement rated Recognized Peña has continues support from parents and community members. Parents are invited to bi- weekly meetings to learn about different topics in order to assist their children at home. The annual health fair is an event that is well attended each year by our parents. They get valuable health related information as well as basic health screening on site.. Raquel Peña Elementary

5 21 st Century Workforce Development rated Recognized Our students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in college awareness activities such as the Annual District College Awareness Day by wearing a university or college T-shirt. Students are also involved in multiple career presentations such as the Fire Dept., Rodeo Dental presentations. Raquel Peña Elementary

6 Second Language Acquisition Program Exemplary Parents participate in varied activities to help them learn strategies to assist their children to learn English. This year our parent volunteers brought literature to life as students were read a book in both English and Spanish while parent volunteers performed the events of the story. Each PK student received a copy of the book courtesy of the District’s Bilingual Department. Peña Elementary invites parents to participate in different sessions throughout the year reviewing academic and linguistic strategies to promote English acquisition. Raquel Peña Elementary

7 Digital Learning Environment rated Recognized Our students have a rich digital learning environment that is supported by four computer labs. One of these labs is incorporated within the library area to support the use of the Accelerated Reader Program. Our CBLT members complete Texas Literacy Plan modules via Project Share. Digital communication is supported between students, teachers, and parents via our website and the Phone Messenger system to communicate to parents of any school related announcements. Parents are encouraged to sign up for the Parent Access Center to monitor their child’s academic progress and attendance. Raquel Peña Elementary

8 Dropout Prevention Strategies rated Recognized At-risk students are served by intervention strategies such the PK program. All PK teachers are CIRCLE trained and open their doors to Head Start visitors as a transition pre-activity. Peña Elementary also has one 5 th grade class size reduction teacher. This year all students K-5 th grade were able to access the Living with Science software to support instruction. Additional support for 3 rd -5 th grade students was provided by the Think Through Math, and iStation programs. Tutorial programs are offered after school and Saturday to support at- risk students that are in need of remediation. Raquel Peña Elementary

9 Gifted and Talented Program rated Recognized Peña’s G/T identified students participated in events such as the BISD Science Fair and Spelling Bee. We were the hosting school for this year’s UIL event were our students had an opportunity to showcase their skills. A turn around training was provided to all teachers by G/T Trainers on strategies to provide appropriate instruction to GT students and enhance higher order thinking opportunities in the classroom.
