Temperate Seasonal Forests Lewis Walsh and Nini

Physical factors  Temperate Forests are all over the world in Eastern U.S., Canada, Europe, China, and Japan.  They’re essentially your typical forests like the ones we have in the Rocky Mountains. They go through four season, leaves change colours, hot summers and cold winters.  The trees in this biome lose their leaves in the fall in preparation for winter. During the cold winter, the trees enter a state of dormancy or sleep.  Then the grow back again in the spring and restart the cycle.  This biome vegetation is very diverse because the many different species of trees, plants, shrubs, and wildlife.

Food Webs  The wildlife in the temperate forest biome is very common because its one that is almost stereotypical. This is the same food web in the Rocky Mountains and almost every other “typical” forest

Biotic factors Typical Animal  The Whitetail Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) is a very common deer in the temperate forest biome. Typical Plant  The Pine tree (Pinus) is almost too common not only in temperate forest, but also in mid elevation locations.

Climate and weather  The temperate forest’s annual precipitation of a forest in Staunton, Virginia (where the data was recorded) was something you would expect. Rather dry in the end and beginning of the year, but radical during the spring, summer, and fall.  An average of 70 mm of precipitation which is an average of 2.75 in.  The temperate forest’s annual temperature in Staunton, Virginia (same place) was relatively expected and not to surprising.  The average temperature of the biome was degrees Celsius, which is equal to degrees Fahrenheit.

What’s Dangerous to this biome  One of the biggest threats to the temperate seasonal forest biomes is ourselves. People to use the nature for logging, commercial use, or other things like vacation resorts, ski towns, cities, etc.  The soil in this biome is easily converted to agriculture so companies can basically take the soil from the biome and sell it for agricultural use.  Acid rain is another big threat to this biome because the wildlife depends so much on water to feed the plants, trees, and animals. Acid rain is not only dangerous and harmful for the plants, but can also impact rainfall patterns significantly which could indirectly harm the forest more if it get a dry season or not enough rainfall.
