French & Indian War War fought between England & France English & Colonists French & Indians vs English & Colonists WIN!!

PROCLAMATION OF 1763 What it did: Claimed that all lands west of the Appalachian Mts. Were closed to “any purchase and settlements” Colonist Response Colonists were mad b/c they fought for this land in the French & Indian war

Writs of Assistance What it did: Allowed British custom officials to search any ship or building Colonists Response: Not happy 

QUARTERING ACT What it did: Mass. colonists had to quarter the British troops Colonist Response Not happy 

STAMP ACT What it did: Written materials had to be printed on special paper Colonist Response Charged that basic rights of British citizens were being violated

TOWNSHEND ACTS What it did: Levied new duties/taxes on imports & set up a customs board in Boston to make sure duties were collected Colonist Response Protested, wrote essays & refused to buy imported British goods

Boston Massacre What it did: British soldiers fire into a rioting crowd Colonists Response: Turned colonial sentiment against British rule
