Determining Section vs Cohort Classes in the Schedule In class schedules, the encircled ‘H’ indicates it is an Honors class But you need to open the class description to see if it’s an Honors Section or Cohort class

Honors-Only Cohort Class Cohort classes have only Honors students in them. “Cohort” means a group of people banded together or treated as a group. Your Honors project is built into this type of class (so a CEP is not required) You are required to take a Cohort class for your first two consecutive semesters

Honors Section Class This is a traditional class with a few reserved seats for Honors students Discuss project components with your instructor, get their approval, fill out a CEP and submit it in your Honors Canvas by the designated deadline Present the project to your class, then fill out an End of Semester Checklist. You hand deliver it to the Honors office by the designated deadline

Honors Project Some examples PowerPoint Presentation Typewritten Essay Poster Board Display & Typewritten Essay Project must be uploaded into Canvas by the designated deadline

Honors-Sponsored Events/Co-Curricular Activities & Honors Forum Lectures Each semester, you must attend one Honors Forum Lecture AND One Honors-Sponsored Event/ Co-Curricular Activity After attending, type and upload in Canvas a full 2-page, double- spaced summary of your reflections and observations by the designated deadline

Canvas Calendar To find Honors-sponsored events/co-curricular activities, log into Canvas and click on “Calendar” near the top left of the page. Then click on “EMC Fall 2015 Presidents’ Scholars” to view dates and times.

Service Learning Presidential Scholars will be required to complete 10 hours of Service Learning every semester. Service Learning is a teaching and learning tool that combines course content with organized community service experiences at local nonprofit organizations. You will learn about the 3 different ways you can engage in Service Learning at EMCC. Individual/Club Placements: Students/Clubs are placed at any of EMCC’s approved agencies. The student/club and agency will determine the goals of the service learning experience, number of hours and duration of the experience. One-Day Events: A one-day experience for students and faculty. This can be held on campus to benefit a specific agency/group of agencies or at the agency site.

End of Semester Checklist *For your 3rd and 4th semesters

Graduating with Honors Distinction For every class you submit an Honors project in or complete an Honors Cohort class, you earn points Classes must be completed in four different prefixes (such as MAT, BIO, PSY, ENG, etc.) These points can earn an Honors graduate or Honors distinction on your transcripts, which boosts your academic profile 15 points plus a cumulative GPA will designate you as an Honors Program Graduate 15 points plus a cumulative GPA will designate you as an Honors Program Graduate with Distinction
