Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Today you will become a geologist on a quest to better understand the rock cycle and how the three major types of rocks change from one to the other. You will be performing experiments to better understand how different types of rocks are formed and how they move through the earth. Introduction You can always me with any questions at

Task You will be learning how each of the three major types of rock – Sedimentary, Metamorphic, and Igneous are formed by reading about each and performing an experiment to see how the formation happens. There will be a total of three tasks for you to complete in this process, and a final Project to Show what you have learned. Introduction Process Evaluation Conclusion Before you begin visit the evaluation page first and follow the instructions for pre-assessment, Then begin your quest with the process link.

Evaluation Introduction Task Process Before you begin your quest, you and your partner will consider any prior knowledge you may have about the rock cycle. Then re-evaluate yourself after completing the quest. Rate yourself: In your science notebook, on the first page of the rock cycle section, rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 means you have never heard of the rock cycle before, 5 means you feel like you know all about it. You will be completing one major project as a part of your quest. You will be graded according to the accuracy and thoroughness of your information. You should fulfill the following requirement: 1.Identify all three major rock types and how they are formed. 2.Show your understanding of how the rock types change and cycle from one to the other. 3.Include a diagram showing the complete rock cycle. Conclusion *After completing the main project, go back to your journal and rate yourself again on a scale of one to five. How much have you learned?

Conclusion Extension Activity – Extra Credit! Sedimentary rocks are made from tiny particles of soil washed down streams into deposits that become thicker each year. Over time these deposits form sedimentary rocks. Think of a demonstration you could do to show a classmate how sedimentary rocks are formed. Introduction Task Process Evaluation ? Project Choose from one of the following four ideas to show what you have learned about the rock cycle: 1. Create a poster display of the rock cycle. 2. Imagine that you are a junior geologist on a mission to uncover the secrets of the rock cycle. Write a diary detailing your daily activities and discoveries that includes entries about each part of the rock cycle. Minimum five entries. 3. Create a cartoon about the rock cycle. Minimum five frames. 4. Write a children’s book about the rock cycle. Minimum five pages. Your project must include a diagram of the rock cycle and an explanation of how the different rock types are formed and transformed from one to the other.
