2. Task #1 - Opposing Forces – Science Copy this example onto your story board! Story / Title PagePictures you would like to use Sounds / Explanation of title page Plate Tectonics Pic of the Earth split into plates Diagrams that show the different types of plate boundaries Volcanoes Plate Tectonics is the theory that the Earths Crust is split into 7 plates. The plates move slowly and when they collide, spread apart, or slide against they act as opposing forces. These forces change and shape the appearance of the Earth!

3. Task #2 – Use the opposing forces page on my website to fill in AT LEAST 3 more examples for your story board. Story / Title PagePictures you would like to use Sounds / Explanation of title page Choose from the examples I put on my website. Brainstorm pictures that will support your explanation. Answer the question: What 2 forces are opposing and what is the result of the opposing forces?

4. Task #3 - Notebook Set Up Pages 129 and 130 Title: Earth Science Activities Date: 5/20/13 NO CORNELL NOTES NEEDED

5. Task #4 – Copy Learning Targets onto page 129 I can list and describe the 3 parts of the biosphere. I can list and describe the layers of the Earth. I can explain the Theory of Plate Tectonics. I can identify heat transfer as radiation, conduction or convection. I can read and interpret a rock cycle diagram. I can use streak, hardness, luster and color tests to identify unknown minerals.

6. Task #5 – Magic School Bus Label your notebook with the title of the video. Take at least 5 bulleted notes while watching.

7. Task #6 – Mr. Lee Rock Cycle Rap Label your notebook with the title of the video. Write down 5 things you learn from listening. Write down 5 questions you have about the lyrics.

8. Task #7 – Earth Science Videos 1. Label your notebook with the title of this task. 2. Copy these questions into your notebook. 3. Watch the videos and answer the questions. 4. Then explain which video you think best answers these questions? How do rocks change over time? What is the rock cycle? How many different types of rocks exist? What are rocks made of? What are minerals?

9. Task #8 – Rock Cycle Reading Ask your sub for a copy of the rock cycle article. Read it and answer the questions as you go. Hand this article into your color class bin at the front of the room.

10. Task # 9 – Rock Cycle Vocabulary Label your notebook with the title of this task. Use the website provided to explore the rock cycle Define the following words using the website 1. Metamorphic Rock 2. Sedimentary Rock 3. Igneous Rock 4. Sediment 5. Magma 6. Weathering and Erosion 7. Heating and Pressure 8. Compaction and Cementing 9. Melting 10. Cooling

11. Task 10 – Create your own rock cycle diagram. Label your notebook with the title of this task. Use google images to search different diagrams of the rock cycle. Choose your favorite. Re-create that diagram in your own notebook using colored pencils. Make sure to include LABELS!!!

Follow the instructions on the left hand side of the page. 4. Make sure you watch the video to learn how to use the interactive mineral test website. 5. Copy these questions into your notebook and answer them: 1. What are 2 different kinds of minerals? 2. What are the properties scientists use to identify minerals? 3. Draw a diagram that shows how a student would complete a streak test. 4. Draw a diagram that shows how a student would complete a scratch test.
