Assessment Activities There are 5 primary assessment activities for this course – Individual Portfolio – Body of Evidence Team Assignment or exemption Unit Quizzes Unit Knowledge Tests Forum participation Individual Assignment Team Unit Quizzes Unit Knowledge Tests Forums 45% to 65% 20% or Exemption 5% 20% 10%

Primary Assessment Activities Individual Assignment - Portfolio of Evidence Sets of evidence compiled for actual work-based projects or personal and volunteer projects Two sets of evidence required for each of the 9 subjects or unit Can be supplemented with additional deliverables if there are gaps in the evidence Can be combined with direct questioning by the assessor and third party workplace reports Team Assignment Pairs or groups of three students Shows how you work in a team, organise activities and apply project management techniques Unit Quiz Multiple choice and True/False answer questions Revision of basic concepts from the Project Management Body of Knowledge Unit Knowledge Test Short answer questions and detailed understanding questions Demonstrates greater understanding of the Project Management Body of Knowledge and practical application of the concepts Forums Discussion with other students on project management standards, tools and techniques in different scenarios

Individual Assignment Individual Assignment - Portfolio of Evidence Your Individual Assignment comprises between 45% and 65% of your overall mark and must take the form of a portfolio that show cases your work product for a minimum of two projects, for each of the 9 key knowledge areas or units of study. 45% applies if you are also undertaking a Team Assignment as part of the Diploma. 65% applies if you have been granted an exemption from the Team Assignment due to the previous submission of a Team Assignment as part of the Certificate IV of Project Management or by undertaking Third party verification of your performance in a project team. Students generally organise their portfolio in one of two ways

Individual Assignment – Option 1 Option 1. Portfolio of Evidence - based on complete end to end projects This approach generally works best where the student is fortunate enough to be project managing two end to end projects, these can be either work related or personal projects The portfolio should be organised in 2 parts - Part A comprising the evidence for the first project, sub divided into each of the 9 key knowledge areas. Part B comprising the evidence for the second project, sub divided into each of the 9 key knowledge areas It is critical that students follow the criteria set out in the Student Assessment Guide, this provides a comprehensive list of all evidence that must be provided for each knowledge area or unit of study It is possible to use individual pieces of evidence to fulfil the criteria for several knowledge areas, for example the Project Scope Statement can be used in both Project Integrative Processes and Manage project Scope

Individual Assignment – Option 2 Option 2. Portfolio of Evidence based on more than 2 projects, many different projects are used to fulfil requirements of different knowledge areas This approach is used when a student is managing more than 2 projects concurrently or where they have taken on the project management role part way through completion of several projects The portfolio is best organised into 9 parts, corresponding to each of the 9 key knowledge areas or units of study Each part of the portfolio should then be divided into two sets of complete evidence based on the criteria set out in the Student Assessment Guide As above, it is possible to use individual pieces of evidence to fulfil the criteria for several knowledge areas, for example an invoice could be used in both Manage Project Costs and Manage Project Procurement

Team Assignment Team Assignment Your Team Assignment comprises 20% of your overall mark. This is a series of Team work to show you can work in a team environment. This will be based on number of students in the course at the time and their progress on the course. Please ask your Course Facilitator for details. It is possible to obtain an exemption from the Team Assignment providing that a competent team assignment has been submitted as part of a previous Certificate IV in Project Management. In this case your Individual Assignment will increase to 65% of the final course result. It is possible to obtain an exemption from the Team Assignment providing you can supply two third party reports to verify your success in project team work. In this case your Individual Assignment will increase from 45% to 65% of the final course result.

Competency requires a grade of 65% or higher Assessment Grading To be awarded the Diploma of Project Management learners must achieve competency in ALL 9 units of study. All units of study in this course are Ungraded. Students will be assessed as either Competent or Not Yet Competent. A nominal mark is generally calculated for each assessment and for the overall level of achievement in each unit of study. Competency requires a grade of 65% or higher Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement can be awarded for students with grades of 85% and above.

Assessment Submission You will receive instructions from your Course Facilitator as to their preferred mechanism for submission Generally – Unit Quizzes are completed online using Tests and Tasks, marks are available online immediately upon completion of the quiz Unit Knowledge Tests are completed online using Tests and Tasks, marks are entered online when the Course Facilitator marks the answers, they will generally be available online to students within 7 days Team Assignments and Individual Assessments are submitted via the Course site, marks will be advised via email and can take several weeks Forums are marked after the closing date for the Forum (two weeks after the end of that unit)

Assessment Resubmissions The student result is based on the grades for the assessment tasks and evidence provided to meet the criteria for competence as specified for each unit of study. Where students are not deemed competent after the first attempt, a resubmission may be requested and can be granted at the facilitator’s discretion. Resubmissions must be made as soon as possible after the initial assessment, preferably within two weeks. Extensions for assessment activities (particularly the Individual Assignment) can be granted where there are extenuating or difficult circumstances. Students in this situation must contact their facilitator immediately so that alternative arrangements can be agreed.

Assessment Strategy The assessment strategy for this course is based on the principles of validity, reliability and fairness. Assessment Activities are designed to - cover a range of skills and knowledge required to demonstrate achievement of the unit and course aims collect evidence on a number of occasions and in a variety of contexts and situations – one source of evidence is not sufficient be appropriate to the knowledge, skills, methods of delivery and needs of learners assist assessors to interpret evidence consistently Assessment activities and evidence collection can take place in the workplace or in a simulated environment.
