2 BECOMING AN ASSESSOR Assessing Vocational Achievement Qualifications are designed for those already in a Training and Assessing role or who are intending to enter the profession.

3 THE LEVEL 3 ASSESSING VOCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAMMES These qualifications have now replaced the A1 Award, A2 Award, D32 and D33 Units.

4 ASSESSING VOCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT OPTIONS:  Level 3 Award Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment  Level 3 Award Assessing Competence in the Work Environment  Level 3 Award Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement  Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

5 LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE IN ASSESSING VOCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT The Level 3 Awards consists of: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment; Assessing Competence in the Work Environment and Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement. It is therefore intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

6 UNIT 1: UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF ASSESSMENT The aim of this unit is to assess the candidate assessor’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices that underpin assessment.

7 UNIT 2: ASSESS OCCUPATIONAL COMPETENCE IN THE WORK ENVIRONMENT The aim of this unit is to assess the candidate assessor’s performance in assessing occupational competence in an individual’s work environment. As a minimum, there must be performance evidence for the following assessment methods:  observation of performance in the work environment  examining products of work  questioning the learner

8 UNIT 3: ASSESS VOCATIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING The aim of this unit is to assess the candidate assessor’s performance in assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace – for example workshops, classrooms or other training environments.

9 UNIT 3: ASSESS VOCATIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Evidence to cover a number of assessment methods:  Assessments of the learner in Simulated Environments  Skills tests  Oral and Written questions  Assignments  Projects  Case studies  Recognising prior learning

10 HOW WE DELIVER OUR TRAINING  You are allocated a mentor who will support you throughout the course and be available to answer any questions.  The course is delivered through face to face and also coursework consisting of reading, questions, assignments and activities.  Each module is covering a different aspect of the course and includes activities.  At the end of each unit there are specified assignments to complete, which are marked and internally moderated.
