Constructing a Timetable Up to 8 hours of curriculum; PLUS 4 hours Further Professional Duties (= at least one Learning Support ; meeting cycle, tutor group time (secondary only), extra curricular) 4 hours of school based training (1 timetabled mentor, 1 PS, 1 M level research, 1 school experience directed tasks) Gradual staging of uptake: teach one hour by half term; eight hours by Xmas. Convening Mentor Sessions Purpose of sessions: Review the week and progress towards targets. Prepare for the coming week, set new targets, discuss weekly focus (programme in subject handbooks.) School Based Training Log: Before the meeting trainee prepares section 1-3. After the meeting trainee completes: 4=A discussion record, 5=SMART targets,6= ‘to do’ list. Trainee passes to you for 7. You traffic-light, sign, adds (optional) comment. Return to trainee. Trainee sends copies to you, PT, us via VLE. New Mentor Training 2013

Keep communicating clearly! With your trainee: access to SoWs, resources, clear expectations; written observation notes on form. Keep communicating clearly! With Professional Tutor: a weekly chat, e mail. Early signalling of any concern. Ask for co-observation? With Curriculum Tutor: on call for advice, second opinion etc. Only one scheduled visit for Secondary but two for Primary first placement (as it is an extended placement) New Mentor Training 2013
