Unsafe Driving 6 - Months What are our Top Violations? –Speeding – 10 Violations 6-10 MPH – MPH – MPH – 1 –Following to Close - 6 Violations –Seat Belt – 3 Violations –Traffic Control – 1 Violation

Unsafe Driving – 6 Months How can you prevent these violations –Slow Down On a 40 mile trip if you travel 60 instead of 55 you save maybe 3 minutes. –Is 3 minutes of your time worth +$120 and your job???? –Increase your following distance Smith system recommends at least 5 seconds of following distance A trucks stopping distance is 100+ yards, a car is less than ½ that –Click it or ticket Seat belts fall under the cardinal safety rules. –No seat belt can equal fine + 3 suspension

Cargo / Driver Fitness – 6 Months What are our Top Cargo Securement Violations? –Straps on Roll Off Boxes – 7 Violations No Straps – 4 Loose Straps – 2 Straps past allowed distance – 1 –Unsecured Load Blowing / Falling – 2 violations What are our Top Driver Fitness Violations? –No or Expired Medical Certificate - 4

Cargo / Driver Fitness – 6 Months How can you prevent these violations (Cargo) –Containers must be strapped at all times Straps must be attached on both sides of the container within 6 feet 7 inches (a little over a full arms length) Straps must be tight, hand tight is not good enough –No visible material over the top rail Visible material should be tapped How can you prevent these violations (Fitness) –Know you expiration date of your medical card –Medical cards must be carried anytime operating a CMV –Follow all restrictions (Glasses, Etc…)

Vehicle Maintenance – 6 Months What are our Top Vehicle Maintenance Violations? –Inoperable Lights – 16 Violations –Brakes Out Of Adjustment – 10 Violations –Tires – 9 Violations –Defective / Inoperable Brakes – 5 Violations –Brake Hose Chaffing – 5 Violations –Fire Extinguisher – 4 Violations

Vehicle Maintenance – 6 Months How can you prevent these violations –Vehicle inspections should be ongoing. After any stop take the time to do a quick walk around of vehicle. –Any time trailer / truck goes into the shop ask the mechanics to check the brakes quick –Check tires 2/32 Tread on Steers & 4/32 on drives Check for proper inflation (preferably with a gauge) –Take time for the little things Cleaning lights / reflectors / license plates Visually check fire extinguisher
