INTRODUCTION Mrs. Mills has brought her computer to you saying that it has not been functioning effectively. She further stated that she had brought it to a technician and he stated that the problem was internal. Mrs. Mills now wants you to repair the system. What could be wrong with Mrs. Mills computer and how could this problem be fixed?

TASK You are required to form yourselves into groups of 3’s and conduct a research on the parts assigned to your group, problems that may arise with the parts and what to do when these problems arise. Each group will prepare a power point presentation and teach the class about their findings. You are also required to make replicas of the parts assigned to your group and then combine those parts to form a replica of a computer. Click to see list of parts assigned to the different groups

…task continued Group 1. Motherboard, Hard drive, Processors Group 2. RAM card, Cooling fan, Video card Group 3. Sound card, Graphics card, CD drives Group 4. Computer tower, Secondary storage, Power supply Group 5. Removable media devices, ports, Chip sets Group 6. Bios, Internal buses, Main board Group 7. Memory, Disc drives, Interface cards Be sure to read the process to see how the task is to be carried out.process

PROCESS 1.Form your groups of 3’s. 2.Assign an internal part to each group member for them to research thoroughly. 3.Conduct your research and then discuss amongst each other how the group will present the information. 4.Come together as a class to decide on the size of the replicas each person will design as the size of each part will greatly affect the fitting up of the replica computer. 5.Fit your individual replicas together to form a replica of a computer.

RESOURCES

EVALUATION The assignment will be evaluated on the following basis… CriteriaMarks Evidence of a thorough research on internal parts, faults and how to correct faults 25 Teamwork and deportment10 Proper designing of power point presentation(font size, colour, font style etc…) 10 Interaction with class during presentation10 Proper designing of internal parts20 Proper combination of internal parts25 Total100

CONCLUSION Now that you have explored inner parts of the computer you are better able to understand the vital role of each internal part. This knowledge will help you in making future decisions about your PC whether it be that you have encountered faults or you want to do an upgrade to your PC.

Now go and share this new found knowledge with your family and friends so that they too will better understand the importance of all these tiny parts and see how they all come together to create this amazing tool. … conclusion continued
