Today we are going to explore the question “How Does a Computer Work?” by looking at the different components of a computer Objective:

The MOTHERBOARD The motherboard holds the components or parts of the computer

CPU (Central Processing Unit) The CPU is the brains of the computer It controls information & tells other components of the computer what to do. The next slide has some pictures of what the CPU looks like #2

CPU The type of CPU in a computer also determines has fast that computer can operate. #3

CPU A CPU generates lots of heat, so there is usually a small fan on top of the CPU to cool it down 8 #4

CPU There are many different styles of fans

Memory Computers use two types of memory Primary memory which is stored on chips located on the motherboard Secondary memory that is stored in the hard drive #5

Memory  Primary memory holds all of the essential memory that tells your computer how to be a computer.  Secondary memory holds the information that you store in a computer #6

RAM Memory (random-access memory) RAM is a form of computer data storage. RAM takes the form of integrated circuits that allow stored data to be accessed in any order #7

What did I learn today? Today we are going to explore the question “How Does a Computer Work?” by looking at the different components of a computer Your assignment: At the bottom of your notes, type a narrative about what you learned today.
