Leadership – Definition “Leadership is a relational activity where an individual(s) guide(s) or direct(s) others (followers) to attain an objective or goal”

Leadership theories Trait theory Skills theory Path-goal theory Transfor- mational theory Situational theory Contingency theory Transac- tional theory Servant leadership theory

Transactional leadership Transactional leaders exchange things of value with subordinates to achieve their objective and goals. Transactional leaders are influential because it is in the best interests of subordinates to do what the leader wants.

Transactional leadership Contingent reward Management-by- exception + Expected outcomesPerformance beyond expectations

Transactional Leadership concept Transactional Leadership occurs when one person tries to contact others for the purpose of exchanging valued things. The exchange of things can be anything – political or psychological. The parties concerned are conscious of the power resources and attitudes of the other. The purpose stands within the bargaining process and the relationship does not go beyond this. The goods that are exchanged are specific, tangible and calculable. Their relationship lasts only till needs of both leader and follower are satisfied.
