Lighting the Way for Veterans As the largest women's organization in the world, the Department of Florida is going to Light the Way for Veterans this year. 2

Promoting the Auxiliary We as members can “shine” 3

Give a gift subscription Give gift subscriptions If your Post/Unit has a monthly newsletter, leave a copy 4

Create a website Create a website for the unit or the Legion family. Communicate and involve all auxiliary members 5

Social Media Promote a positive image of the American Legion Auxiliary 6

Social Media Utilize Facebook by posting meeting dates and times. Post pictures of the great work you are doing. Take action shots or still shots 7

Ring Your Bell The “Ring Your Bell” contest is designed to promote the importance of media attention Units will receive points 8

Ring Your Bell Continued Units will keep a notebook or digital file Information will be forwarded at mid-year and year-end. Department chairman will offer a plaque. 9

Department Awards Marie Weisbrod Trophy will be awarded to the unit reporting the most outstanding “single” Auxiliary program receiving TV coverage. The Maude Hollowell Trophy will be presented to the unit who submitted the Press Book, which was judged “Best All Around”. Press Book rules can be found in your 2014 – 2015 Unit Guide. 10

National Awards National has an award for “Outstanding PR Program” Unit award: Program Emphasis – Best Media Coverage 11

Please remember: Remember the 5 important W’s. Who, what, where, when and why. When submitting newspaper articles, you MUST submit the whole page with name of newspaper and the date. Lastly, when submitting entries for awards, use the name of your unit and location listed in your unit guide. 13
