4 FLAG HISTORY June 14, 1777 – FLAG DAY August 3, 1777 13 stripes & 13 stars one for each original colony Colors – RED - WHITE – BLUE – Next was 15 stripes & 15 stars – 1818 Congress enacted law - 13 horizontal, alternating red & white stripes representing 13 original colonies in the Union and that a 5 pointed star be added for each state

7 American Essay Contest In Abraham Lincoln’s 2nd Inaugural address the promise, “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan”, by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans. This year’s theme is “How do we keep Lincoln’s promise to our veterans and their families?”
