Teaming Are you part of the educational team? What does that mean? Are you part of the solution or the problem?

Educational vs. Community Share information with the team. Accept assignments based on group needs and schedule. Work with a team. Skills accessed by consumer, peers, and interpreter coordinator. Keep all information confidential. Accept assignments based on individual preference. Work in isolation. Self access skills.

Educational Interpreting Pros  Assignments are ongoing.  Pay is somewhat predictable.  There is a support network.  Team members can share info to make subbing easier. Cons  Schedule is based on student schedules.  Students drop classes.  Sometimes you get “stuck” with subject matter you don’t like.  Less independence.

What Does Team Mean to YOU? What make a person a good team member? Have you experienced situations where you did not want to work with a particular person? How did you professionally handle that? What ethical considerations are there when working on an educational team?

Why Do We Have an Educational Team? The postsecondary educational goal is to provide a level playing field for students who are otherwise qualified. Consistency improves the educational environment. Colleges and Universities are based on a community philosophy.
