Computer Technology Objective Standard 1: Objective 1 Identify and understand components and peripherals, including input-output devices (cameras, printers, scanners, game-controllers, etc.).

INPUT DEVICES An input device is anything that puts information inside of a computer.

OUTPUT DEVICES An output device is anything that can display information.

Monitor A monitor is an example of an output device. A monitor takes information and displays it on the screen for you to look at.

Keyboard A keyboard is an input device. You can press the keys on the keyboard and they appear on the screen. You are putting information into the computer and are telling the computer what to do by pressing the keys.

Speakers Speakers are output devices. A computer uses speakers to play sound and music from information that it has.

Mouse A mouse is an example of an input device. When you move the mouse around and click the buttons, it tells the computer what to do. Information is put into the computer when you click the mouse.

Printer A printer is an output device. It takes information from a computer and prints it out so that you can see it.

Digital Camera A digital camera is an input device. A digital camera takes pictures that you can put into a computer. The pictures become information inside of the computer.

Scanner A scanner is an input device. A scanner takes the picture information and puts it into the computer.

Camcorder A camcorder is an input device. A camcorder takes the video information and puts it into the computer.

Joystick A joystick is an input device. A joystick puts information into the computer to allow you to control the game.

Bar Code Reader A bar code reader is an input device. A bar code reader takes the product information and puts it into the computer.

Headphones Headphones are an example of an output device. Headphones are like speakers. They take information out of the computer to play music and sounds for you to hear.

Game Controller Game controllers are examples of input devices. Game controllers are like keyboards, mice, and joysticks. They put information into the computer to allow you to play the game.

Projector A projector is an example of an output device. It takes information out of the computer and projects it on a screen.
