INTRODUCTION  What does energy saving mean to you?  Why is it important?  What are some categories?

ENERGY SAVING DEFINED A way to make economical use of electricity, gas, water and other forms of energy.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT Money!

CATEGORIES  Cooling  heating  Lighting  Appliances  Water heating  Electronics  Windows

COOLING  Set thermostat to auto  Block the sun  Close doors and windows  Close unused vents  Use ceiling fans

HEATING  Don’t block vents  Limit use of portable heaters  Cover bare floors  Keep thermostat temperature close to outside temp  Use the sun to heat your home  Change filters

LIGHTING  Replace standard bulbs with CFLs  Use the right size light bulb  Buy bulbs for less  Recycle your CFL bulbs

APPLIANCES  Use microwaves and toaster ovens  Dust your fridge  Wash full loads of clothes  Keep the oven closed  Grill more often  Clean the dryer lint filter  Choose energy-efficient appliances

WATER HEATING  Wash clothes with cold water  Shorten showers  Turn water heater off  Check for leaks  Get insulation wrap  Install a timer

ELECTRONICS  Plug electronics into power strips  Avoid energy vampires  Unplug battery chargers  Consider a laptop  Look for Energy Star-qualified TVs
