Coordination with Central Steering Committee The Director, CRRI took part in critical review of the program in different states while attending meetings both at the Central and State level, and monitored the progress of activities in monthly meeting in CRRI.  Attend the Central Steering Committee Meeting at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi under the chairmanship of the Secretary (A&C), DAC on 20 th December, 2013,  Reviewed the program in the ‘Aawareness workshop cum Meeting’ at IGKV, Raipur, Chhattisgarh on March,15,2013,  Reviewed the program in the ‘ Annual Workshop” in the eastern UP at Lucknow on 24 th May 2013  Reviewed the program in Odisha in the ‘State Coordination committee meeting’ at Bhubaneswar 30 th May 2013

MONITORING REPORT ON SLMT VISITS ASSAM Rice varieties- Swarna sub 1, Ranjit, Bahadur,Mahsuri, Arize 6444, Swarna, Tarasali, local Bora, IR 64, MTU 1010, JKRH, Baismuthi and Rajalaxmi were under crop demonstration. Area covered- 34,000 ha= 14,000 ha under shallow lowland and 20,000 ha under hybrid rice programme, Nos. of Demonstrations – 70 in shallow lowland rice and 100 demonstrations of hybrid rice. Crop cutting - average paddy yield in the BGREI plots were 5.42 t/ha in HYV and 6.58 t/ha in hybrid rice.

Critical Observations: a)split application of N needs to be scheduled uniformly, b)ITK is preferably to be adopted for controlling rice bug, c) Quinolphos should be applied to control leaf folder effectively than any other insecticides, d)storage of grain should be done after adequate drying to proper moisture content and e)measures need to be taken for utilization of perennial water streams for irrigation in rabi rice.

Rice varieties- Swarna, Arize 6444, Pant 10 and NDR 359. Area covered=Upland- 10,000 ha, shallow low land-15,000 ha and SRI- 77,254 ha. Crop cutting result showed that rice yield was 4.64 t/ha in BGREI plot while state average 2.80 t/ha in farmers plot. BIHAR During the year, a total of 9013 shallow tube wells and 6830 pump sets were distributed among beneficiaries and a total of 1873 pucca threshing floors were constructed.

Critical Observations: a)proper crop planning needs to be adopted considering water scarcity in North-West zone of the state, b)availability of small farm machinery needs to be ensured, c) training for need based plant protection measures is essential to the farmers, d)efficient weed management needs to be followed and e)green manuring to improve soil health needs to be practiced widely.

Rice varieties - Swarna, MTU 1001, BPT 5204, Bumbleshwari, VNR 2245, KRH 2, MTU-1010, IR-64, HMT, Mahamaya, Chandrahasini, Samleswari, Purnima, Sampada, Karma masuri, Pavoniyar 27-P-31, US 312,, PA 6444, PBC 835, JKRJ-401, RH-664 plus, Arize-Tej, JKRH-401, JKRH-401 and DRH 775, Area covered ha,upland - 20,400 ha, shallow low land- 33,800 ha, irrigated ha,hybrid ha. CHHATTISGARH Crop cutting result showed paddy yield of 4.76 t/ha in BGRE demonstration plot and 4.02 t/ha in farmer’s plot accounting for around 20.7% yield enhancement as compared to that in

a)farmers’ fare / exposure training programme is essential especially for progressive farmers, b)farmers still require proper technical guidance on farm mechanization, c)As availability of labor during peak period is a major constraint, mechanization on transplanting and direct seeding, harvesting needs to be adopted widely, and d) modern small farm machinery needs to be available at affordable prices. Critical Observations:

JHARKHAND Rice varieties - IR 64, MTU 1010, KRH 2 and Abhishek Area covered -60,400 ha, 75,225 farmers in 546 Gram Panchayats at 1557 villages, Unusual monsoon rains affected initial crop stands; in contrast, those farmers who raised seedlings after mid July and transplanted in the second week of August benefited mostly. Another intervention, late transplanting with aged seedlings was taken up in western plateau covering the districts of Lohardaga, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar.

a)availability of machine for direct seeding (availability of zero tillage/fertilizer cum seed drills on hire and weed management (wheel hoes/finger weeder and spraying equipments / service centers) needs to be adopted to accelerate adoption of DSR in drought prone areas and b) shorter duration rice varieties need to be promoted to avoid problems from late onset and early withdrawal of monsoons. Critical Observations:

Rice varieties- Swarna, Pooja, Moti, Kalajeera, Nua Dhusara, Keteki joha, MTU 1001, Lalat, Naveen, RGL-2538, Parvati, Suru Samlei, Pani dubki, Rani, Sarala, Gayatri, MTU 1010, Arize 6444, Utkalprabha and Sahbhagidhan’ Area covered -1,29,500 ha, 7,000 ha uplands,78,000 ha shallow lowland, 36,500 ha irrigated medium lands and 8,000 ha hybrid rice. ‘ ODISHA

Crop cutting results- average paddy yield of 4.09 t/ha in rainfed upland, 5.02 t/ha in shallow low land, HYV 5.71 t/ha in irrigated and hybrid 5.88 t/ha in hybrid rice accounting for 5.05 t/ha in BGREI plot comparing with the state average paddy yield of 2.57 t/ha. Asset building activities’- 600 paddy transplanter, pump sets, 3200 paddy thresher and 2400 multi crop thresher were distributed ‘Site specific activities’- facility of 75 community bore well and 100 community surface lift irrigation and irrigation channel of 39,333 Rmt

a)adequate availability of quality rice seed including hybrid rice well ahead of the season, b)promoting T.L. seed production even at farmers’ level, c)up - scaling DSR technology, especially at water limited regions, d)small farm mechanization, e)power supply to the farmers’ oriented community field / farm activities, f)creation of infrastructure on community basis namely storage, threshing floor, community drier, etc. and g) strengthening mechanism for procurement of rice. Critical Observations:

a)timely availability of adequate quantity of quality seeds, b)Site specific activity for improving drainage system in the areas, c)farmers to farmers field visit needs to be initiated for better awareness about the modern technology and d)government should ensure uninterrupted power supply facilitating irrigation particularly at critical growth stages of crop. Critical Observations:

WEST BENGAL Crop cutting results showed the paddy yield of 4.63 t/ha in BGREI demonstration plot and 4.24 t/ha in farmer’s plot during

a)Availability of seed especially during dry season, b) Farmers exposure visit, interaction meet for greater awareness needs to be ensured and c)further areas needs to be brought under this programme in future to increase the visibility ensuring greater impact of modern varieties and technology, Critical Observations:

C. Financial concerns Item-wise breakup of fund is awaited. We have sent the request to DAC on and again reminder on , problem to disburse fund to SAU and to incure internal expenditure, Non utilization and submission of SOE from SAUs- An amount lakh was remitted to SAUs of all seven states during Only IGKV (Rs lakh / 2.5 lakh, dt ), RAU, Bihar (Rs. 41,790 / 1.0 lakh, dt ), BHU (Rs / 2.5, dt ) submitted SOE. No fund was remitted for BGREI programme due to non- submission of SOE; unspent balance is lakh in SAUS head.
