Sl.Initiative 1.Monitoring  Continuous monitoring of availability of inputs in all the corners of the State. 2.Expansion of Rice area  Summer (Boro) Rice area increased by 29%.  Gross Cropped area is estimated to be increased from 37.63 lakh hectare in 2006-07 to 42.30 lakh hectare in 2010-11.  Cropping Intensity is expected to increase from 137% to 154% during the same period. 3.Popularisation of Hybrid & HYV Rice cultivation  2.5% of area brought under Hybrid Rice in 2010- 11 for demonstration against no coverage in 2006- 07.  An additional area of 4.31 lakh hectares brought under HYV Rice during last 4 years. 4.Distribution of Quality Seeds  14.35 lakh quintals of quality seeds provided to farmers (including 9.18 lakh quintals of Foodgrain seeds) during last two years. Initiatives adopted to achieve record production of Rice & Foodgrains.

Sl.Initiative 5.Increasing fertiliser consumption  2006-07 : 52.27 Kg. per hectare.  2007-08 : 56.20 Kg. per hectare.  2008-09 : 57.80 Kg. per hectare.  2009-10 : 63.16 Kg. per hectare.  2010-11 : 67.00 Kg. per hectare. 6.Soil Health Management  Assam's soil is acidic in nature and deficient in Micronutrients. For maintaining soil health 16,400 quintals of Micronutrients and 4,55,000 quintals of Lime applied in farmers fields. 7.Credit  Credit provided to farmers through KCC : 2006-07 : Rs. 60.75 crore (50130 KCCs). 2007-08 : Rs. 69.19 crore (44621 KCCs). 2008-09 : Rs. 51.89 crore (26881 KCCs). 2009-10 : Rs. 435.56 crore (149822 KCCs). 2010-11 : Rs. 504.96 crore (163063 KCCs).  Regular interaction with Banks for improvement of credit delivery system. Initiatives adopted to achieve record production of Rice & Foodgrains.

Sl. No.Initiative 8.Creation of Assured Irrigation  Additional assured irrigation facilities of 2.22 lakh hectares created during 11 th Paln Period through installation of Pump Sets. 9.Enhancing Farm Mechanization  3623 nos. of Tractors 11907 nos. of Power Tillers 111 nos. of Rotavators supplied during 11 th Plan Period enhancing Mechanization from 0.57 HP to 0.70 HP per hectare. Extension  All extension functionaries were geared up by regular supervision at various levels. Demonstrations under various schemes were the best source of dissemination. Initiatives adopted to achieve record production of Rice & Foodgrains.

Inter Departmental Co-ordination Sl. No.Department 1.Power  Meeting with Chairman, ASEB has helped electrical connections to the farmers faster. That is how 40,000 nos. of Electrical Pump Sets could be installed in the last two years. 2.Irrigation  Principal Secretary, Agriculture has been appointed as Principal Secretary, Irrigation as well. 3.Fertiliser  Ensuring availability & pre stocking of fertilisers with companies / dealers through regular monitoring with railways and tying up with companies / dealers. 4.Credit  Extensive campaign at district level.  Bankers are assisted by Agriculture Department for identification of farmers through VLEWs.  Regular interaction through SLBC and NABARD.

Future Strategies  Increasing productivity through technological interventions.  Emphasis on irrigation through Shallow Tube Wells will continue to bring more areas under assured irrigation.  Additional 22,000 hectares will be brought under Hybrid Rice cultivation during 2011-12.  Emphasis on mechanization to assure farm power availability of 0.80 HP per hectare at the end of 11 th Plan Period.  Extension through training & demonstration will be strengthened further.  Bankers will be persuaded to extend credit to farmers in bigger way.  Increasing productivity through technological interventions.
