On June 28,1914 the Archduke Frances Ferdinand was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip. Archduke Franz Ferdinand

Austria–Hungary declares war on Russia Because the Archduke was assassinated. The soldiers used new methods of warfare such as trenches and air attacks.

America would try not to take sides in the war but many Americans disliked the German government because it was not a democracy.

On April 2 president Wilson spoke to congress about joining the war and that America must help “free the seas''. Congress declared war. President Wilson

A law was passed that required that all men 21 to 30 must sign up for a draft ordering them to serve in the armed forces.

The government had to pay for the war so they set up a system to pay for the war called war bonds or Liberty Bonds.

Germany began a series of attacks across Europe, at first the attacks were successful, but as the army got weaker the attacks started failing until Germany surrendered.

President Wilson had an idea called the Fourteen Points to make the world a better place after the war.

The League of Nations helped keep peace and was founded just after the war.

The Treaty of Versaille punished the Germans for starting the war. The Treaty made the Germans… 1)Pay $33 billion to the allies for damages 2)Reduce the size of its military 3) Lose all of its colonies.
