Direct Objects Write in your grammar section. A direct object is a noun, pronoun, or group of words that tells who or what receives the action of the verb. Direct objects follow action verbs only! In other words, it completes the meaning of the verb.

Indirect Objects An indirect object is a noun, pronoun, or word group that sometimes appears in sentences containing direct objects. IO’s tell to whom, to what, for whom, or for what the action of the verb is done. If a sentence has an indirect object, it has a direct object as well.

Subject Complements *Write in your grammar section.* A subject complement is a word or group of words in the predicate that identifies or describes the subject. A subject complement is connected to the subject by a linking verb. Two types of subject complements are predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives.

Find your complement. I’m going to give you an item. You will have about 3 minutes to find your “complement” or match. Your complement will have something that identifies your item. Once you’ve found your complement, you need to create a sentence using a linking verb, showing how the two items are connected. Ex. Items: Book and reward Sentence: Reading is its own reward. OR
