Student objective is to express an understanding of the writing process by writing clear, coherent, and focused essays. Write an organized 500 – 800 word essay in which two examples are given to describe where thoughts come from. Direct InstructionThe objective is to learn a well- defined body of knowledge. Student objective is to illustrate their knowledge in identifying and understanding comparisons. Review with students the understanding of analogies and how they function as comparisons of the similar aspects between two different things. Provide several examples and then ask students to create a metaphor to compare the “waves of an ocean” to something descriptive in nature. Verbally explain how students can transfer this new knowledge to creating similes by using the words “like” and “as” in their metaphors.
