Role of the Army Statutory Obligations – Constitutional Mandate: “…provide for the common defense” – National Military Objectives Protect nation from attacks & aggression Prevent conflict & surprise attack Prevail against adversaries

Role of the Army Army Doctrine – Concise statement of how US Army fights – Guide to action; not strict set of rules – Frame of reference that increases readiness by creating common path for mission accomplishment – Results in standardization

Role of the Army The Army Vision – Ultimate instrument of national resolve – Strategically dominant on the ground – Promptly provide well- led, well-trained, and well-equipped forces

Role of the Army Army Mission – Provide combatant commanders the forces to execute the national strategies – Provide capability to gain, sustain, and exploit control of land, resources, and people – Bottom line mission: Protecting and defending the United States
