Using familiar and formal with greetings There are different ways to say how are you in Spanish. ¿Cómo estás? and ¿Qué tal? are familiar greetings. ¿ Cómo está usted (Ud.)? is a formal greeting.

Using familiar and formal with greetings Familiar greetings are used with:  Family  Friends  Someone younger Formal greetings are used with:  A person you don’t know well(stranger)  Someone older  Someone for whom you wish to show respect (in family or position of influence – i.e. President)

Subject Pronouns Subjects are used at the beginning of a sentence to state who is doing the action. Subject pronouns can replace a person’s name or description. Masculine subject pronouns are used for all boys or a group of boys and girls. Feminine subject pronouns are used for all girls only.

Gustar To say what someone likes to do use the form of Gustar and an activity. Activities: Bailar – to dance Cantar – to sing Comer – to eat Escribir – to write Leer – to read Nadar – to swim Patinar – to skate Trabajar – to work
