TOPIC: LOS ADJETIVOS

¿Qué es un adjetivo? (What is an adjective?)  An adjective describes a noun (person, place, thing or idea) For example: She is tall.For example: She is tall. (the adjective in this sentence is tall, because it describes she)(the adjective in this sentence is tall, because it describes she)

Adjective Agreement  In Spanish, the adjective MUST match the noun it is describing in GENDER and in NUMBER For example:La chica bonitaEl chico bonito Las chicas bonitasLos chicos bonitos

-In Spanish, most adjectives have a masculine and feminine form. masculinefeminine 1. Usually ends in -oUsually ends in -a 2. buenobuena

Gender Agreement -Masculine adjectives are used to describe masculine nouns. Por ejemplo: Paco es alto y simpático. -Feminine adjectives are used to describe feminine nouns. Por ejemplo:Juanita es baja y delgada.

Neutral Adjectives -Adjectives that end in –e describe both genders Por ejemplo: Ana es inteligente. Pedro es inteligente. -Most adjectives that end in a consonant match both genders. Por ejemplo:Luisa es intelectual. Marco es intelecual.

-Masculine adjectives that end in –dor have a feminine form that ends in -dora Por ejemplo:Juan es trabajador. Rosalinda es trabajadora. -Adjectives that end in –ista describe both genders. Por ejemplo:Pedro es deportista. Elena es deportista.

Number Agreement -When talking about more than one person or thing, the adjective that describes it must be PLURAL as well. I am weird. -To make a word plural: -if it ends with a vowel : add “-s” -if it ends with a consonant : add “-es” -Por ejemplo:Los chicos son atléticos. Las hamburguesas son buenas. Juan y Isabel son trabajadores.
