Presentation transcript:

Pre-Lab: Absorption & Radiation by Land & Water AIM: How do differences in the specific heat of land and water control a locations weather and climate? Pre-Lab: Absorption & Radiation by Land & Water Radiative Balance: The ratio of absorption : radiation of insolation within the atmosphere Heat Equator: The locations with the warmest average surface temperatures on Earth at each longitude for a given day of the year http://www.geography.hunter.cuny.edu/~tbw/wc.notes/7.circ.atm/animations/WeatherPat.html

AIM: How do differences in the specific heat of land and water control a locations weather and climate? Concepts: A higher specific heat will cause a substance to warm (absorb) and cool (radiate) at a slower rate. (This means fast absorbers are also fast radiators) Q: What should be the “control” of the experiment if one is comparing the specific heat of land vs water? A: The energy each container receives

Interrupter: Shows a break in the proper scale
