Selecting Objects It is important to know: –How to select a single object –How to deselect a selected object –How to select more than one object at a time –How to select objects using the Selection Tool –How to select all the objects on a slide To select all objects: Press CTRL+A To select multiple objects: Press the SHIFT key and click on the next object you wish to select To select a single object: Click on it To deselect objects: Click on the selected object whilst holding down the SHIFT key
Grouping and Un-grouping Objects Grouped objects are treated as one single object To group objects: –Select the objects you wish to group –From the Draw menu, select Group To ungroup objects Select Ungroup from the Draw menu
Re-sizing Objects Right click on the object From the shortcut menu, select Format and click on the Size tab on the dialog box displayed
Aligning Objects Select the objects to be aligned Click the Draw icon on the Drawing toolbar to display the Draw menu. Select Align or Distribute to display the alignment sub-menu. Effect of aligning to the right
Moving Objects Drag and drop, using the mouse Select the object Keep the left hand mouse button depressed Move the mouse pointer to the desired location Release the mouse
Rotating Objects Objects can be rotated as individual objects, or as groups or multiple selections –Select the object (or group) you wish to rotate –Click on the Free Rotate tool on the Drawing toolbar –Place the Free Rotate pointer over one of the object’s re-size handles –Drag the pointer and rotate the outline of the selection to the position you require You may also use the Rotate or Flip command within the Draw drop down menu, which also allows you to Rotate Left or Rotate Right by 90 degrees
Cutting, Copying, Pasting and Duplicating Cut, Copy and Paste –Objects can be cut, copied and pasted using icons on the Standard toolbar (or Edit menu commands) –Whenever you use the cut and copy commands, a copy of the object is placed on the Clipboard Duplicating –When you duplicate an object, a copy of it is not stored on the Clipboard –Duplicating an object means that you make a copy of it which is placed on the slide, slightly offset from the original object Duplicate Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+D

Adding a Custom Background Allows you to add a background that will suit your presentation Choose from –Shaded –Patterned –Textured –Picture –Other Color

Creating and Running a Slide Show PowerPoint 2000 Foundation
What is a Slide Show? You may want to run your presentation as an electronic slide show from your computer –Each slide in your presentation, along with its text, art, and graphics, takes up the whole screen –All other screen elements are hidden
Navigation Through a Slide Show You need to be able to move forwards and backwards through your on- screen slide show This allows you to take questions and be more flexible
Slide Show Transitions Change to Slide Sorter view by clicking on the Slide Sorter button Select Slide Transition from the Slide Show menu
Slide Show Timings Each slide in your slide show can have a different timing applied to it The timings you set for each slide appear below the slide in Slide Sorter view
Slide Show Annotations It is possible to add freehand annotations to draw attention to a particular part of the slide
Hidden Slides Select the slide(s) you wish to hide –The slide will be hidden during a slide show –In Slide Sorter view an icon appears below the slide, which contains the slide number with a line through it, to indicate that it is hidden
What are Animation Effects? Animation effects allow you to add a range of special effects to your slide shows! –Drive-in Effect –Flying Effect –Camera Effect –Flash Once –Laser text Effect –Typewriter Text Effect –Reverse Text Build –Drop-in Text Effect The Animation Effects Toolbar
Drive-in Effect The selected text or object “drives in” from the right This is accompanied by the sound of a car! Toolbar icon
Flying Effect The selected text or object “fly in” from the left This is accompanied by a “whoosh” sound Toolbar icon
Camera Effect The selected text or object “opens” in an effect that simulates the opening of a camera lens
Flash Once The selected text or object “flashes” once when the slide has finished building This slide contains a number of objects that will flash once
Laser Text Effect The selected text or object will “fly” from the top, right of the slide This is accompanied by a “laser” sound If you apply this effect to text, then each letter appears, letter by letter(flying in from the top, right)!
Typewriter Text Effect The selected text is displayed character by character, as if it were being entered from a typewriter
Reverse Text Build The selected text will “fly” up from the bottom of the screen When used on a bulleted list, the last line is displayed first and the first line is displayed last
Drop-in Text Effect The selected text “drops in” from the top of the screen Text is display one word at a time
Meeting Minder Allows you to take minutes or add items to an action list while you run a slide show (or editing a slide)
Slide Show Shortcuts Press F1 during the Slide Show to display the shortcuts In Slide Sorter mode click on the Transition icon to preview the transition effect for that slide
