Welcome to Room 12 Mrs. Fariss

Classroom Rules We are a community of peacebuilders. We will respect ourselvesand others. We will complete all work assignments on time. We will raise our hands and not call out.

Language Arts We will be learning about writing strategies by incorporating art from many sources into our curriculum. Each week we will have a different theme that we will write about. You will see a mapping strategy, a rough draft and a final copy for each project.

Reading We will be breaking into five reading groups according to reading ability. Further, there will be early and late birds. Some students will arrive at 8:30 and some at 9:15. Students will be reassigned to reading groups as needed. Twenty minutes of nightly reading is required We will be breaking into five reading groups according to reading ability. Spelling Spelling will consist of twenty words per week. Students will have a pretest on Mondays and a final test on Fridays. The spelling words will be a part of the homework packet each week.

Physical Education  Having all of our students participate in physical education is extremely important  All P.E. will be skill centered and focused on individual achievement, not competition.

Mathematics We will be working on math using our workbook and worksheets. In addition to the chapter math, timed tests for + and - will be given weekly. These are individual tests and each student will complete them at a different rate. When all students have passed +10, we will have an ice cream party.

Social Studies/Science We will be studying Social Studies and Science by Unit. Once a month, I will send home a newsletter letting you know what we will be covering in the upcoming month.
