Universities seem to be in the horns of a dilemma when it comes to institutional change, hovering between top down and bottom up approaches. That top down change is invariably resisted and bottom up approaches are slow and partial highlights the importance of a forthright and listening leadership where strategic and institutional change is less planned from above and more crafted in action and learning throughout the organisation around the development of shared sense of institutional direction (Dearlove,1997)

Mechanisms Used By Project to Foster A Shared Sense of Direction and Listening Leadership Consultation with all stakeholders at Head of Department/School level and those they identified. Development and communication via a project website. Institution wide consultation with all stakeholders via a online survey and focus groups. Development at all levels of the project of cross functional teams. Content of portal to be determined by users Focus on Integration of systems.
