1 ANGEL Penn State’s Course Management System Created by PSY Office of C&IS

2 What is Angel? Penn State’s Course Management System Provides professors and students with a convenient means of keeping in touch with each other. Offers alternative means of course material distribution, collection, testing and communication between members of the Penn State community.

3 What are the benefits of using Angel? Improves student-professor communication Keeps you organized Allows you to take exams online, and check the grade for that Lets you form message boards and write group- specific emails to keep in touch with your classmates

4 How do I access Angel? Go to http://cms.psu.edu.http://cms.psu.edu Enter your Penn State Access Account userid and password. Click the “Log On” button while “access account is selected. Please log off when you are done using ANGEL.

6 The Interface: Top Frame University: Opens the Penn State home page in a new window LIAS: Opens the university library page in a new window Registrar: Opens a page linking to the Registrary, eLion, and World Campus Search: Opens the Penn State search page in a new window Webmail: Opens PSU webmail in a new window Portal: Opens the Access account portal to all PSU access web apps in a new window

7 The Interface: Left Frame Home: takes you to the home screen Log off: logs the user off Help: displays the angel help dialog User Options: change options like themes and forwarding e-mail

8 The Interface: Content Frame Once the user chooses a course from under “My Courses” on the “My Profile” page, the course content is displayed. This will provide access to the course syllabus, calendar, lessons, class roster (Class), class communications (In Touch), and other tools for enhancing the user’s class experience.

9 Course Arrangement Found under the “My Courses” subheading  Syllabus Tab: May also contain contact info, texts, objectives, schedule, requirements, and attendance and academic integrity policies  Calendar Tab: Course events are found here (i.e., announcements, assignments, exams)  Lessons Tab: May contain: Weekly course content folders Online pages of info provided by instructor Hyperlinks to Web pages outside of ANGEL Quizzes Surveys Files creates in other applications Message boards for asynchronous discussions Dropbox for assignment submission

10 Lessons Tab Toolbar:  Previous: Takes the user to the previously listed file or folder on same hierarchy level. This does NOT lead to the last location visited.  Next: Takes the user to the next listed file or folder on the same hierarchy level.  Up: Leads up one level in the file or folder hierarchy.  Top: Takes the user to the initial “Lessons” tab area.  Index: Displays all the files and folders on the “Lessons” tab in a tree structure.

11 Course Arrangement (cont’d) Resources: The class roster, including instructor, is found here.  The user can find information on class members, class teams, the user’s teams, and can conduct searches to find class members. Communicate: This tab provides links to  Course mail: Send, read, and review mail.  Team File Manager: Add or upload files or folders for team members.  Message Boards: Take part in asynchronous discussions with course members.  Chat Rooms: Take part in “real time” chats with course members.  Course News and Events: View course announcements, news, and poll questions.  In Touch Links: Find and link to Web pages outside of ANGEL that the professor adds for the class.

12 Course Arrangement (cont’d) Reports Tab: This will link the user to items not visited, as well as the learner profile and grade report.  Course Agents: What’s New Agent: View items not completed. My Learner Profile: Review course performance measures and statistics.  Student Reports: My Online Grades: View a simplified report of all online graded activities along with instructor’s comments. My Course Activity: Summary of all course logins and time spent in the course. My Course Attendance: The instructor may provide a listing of student attendance.

13 My Profile Page The elements of the “My Profile” page can be personalized— appearance and placement  Select “My profile content” link in “My settings”  Choose the check box(es) next to items you would like to be displayed  Select display parameters and locations using pull-down menus

14 My Profile Page My Courses: shows courses in which the user is enrolled for which the instructor is using ANGEL My Groups: All campus groups, both course-related and otherwise, are listed here. Will have “About” and “Members” tabs. My Bookmarks: Displays personal bookmarks. Folders and bookmarks are displayed hierarchically.

15 My Profile Page My Toolbox: User may add addresses of favorite or frequently visited Web sites here. These can specified as public or hidden. My Files: User can store up to 10 MB of personal files by selecting the “Add Content” link to add or upload a file.

16 My E-mail: E-mail received from ANGEL courses and groups will display here. Users can also establish a link to a Web-based e-mail account by clicking the “New Entry” button under the “Internet Mail” subheading and following the directions on the screen. My Tasks: Users can create a personal to-do list here by following the menus and instructions on the screen. Click the checkbox to the left of the task to indicate that it has been completed. 17 My Calendar: Users can keep a detailed, private, personal calendar of important dates by clicking on the date in the calendar on the right and selecting the “Add” link in the toolbar. My Content Library: A place to add and store content to potentially use in an ANGEL group for which the user is the editor. My Profile Page

18 New Mail: User can view only ANGEL course and group mail here. Today’s Calendar: All of the current day’s events from user’s “My Calendar” appear here, including events from course and group calendars My Announcements: Course and group announcements appear here, followed by the name of the course or group to which it pertains. My Profile Page

19 User Options: System Settings My Settings: Users can update personal information and viewing settings here.  Forwarding ANGEL course mail to another account: Log on to ANGEL From “My Profile” page, choose the “wrench” icon Select “System Settings” link Under “Mail Settings”, type a valid e-mail address in the “Forwarding Address” text box Make a selection from the “Forwarding Mode” pull-down menu Click the “Save” button
