Optional Module 1 Continuous planning DIT case study

© institutes of technology ireland 2009 DIT – current context (Feb 09)  Planning & development office (approx 8 staff) in place since Nov ’07  Current (3 year) strategic plan approved by GB in Dec ’08  Faculties & schools required to produce annual operational plans  Strategic plan to be updated annually, but maintained as a 3 year plan  Overall aim is to integrate a range of current planning activities (Academic, operational, resource, IT, risk analysis etc.), to minimise duplication & strengthen outputs

© institutes of technology ireland 2009 Continuous planning Outstanding issues (at 15 th Feb 09)  Factors for planning in other Directorates to be mapped onto the calendar (Finance, HR, Academic Affairs)  Clarity required between planning activities, operational activities & quality assurance activities  A position paper to be prepared by the planning office for consideration & approval by the Directorate  The full position paper to be reviewed in detail by a mixed group of academic & functional managers (at Head of School level), in a two day workshop (Expected mid Apr 09)  Feedback to be built into the proposed planning model  Final process to be reviewed & approved by Directorate (expected by mid May 09)
