The American Dream High School Wellness

Do Now  In your notebook, please define what you believe the American Dream is. Be specific and provide examples.

Let’s discuss and board our thoughts  Each student will come to the board and list something that he/she feels pertains to the American Dream.  We will stop after each person has had at least 2 turns.

The American Dream Let’s discuss:  Is the idea of the American Dream unique to Americans, or is it a “Human” Dream?  Do you believe the American Dream has changed over time? If so, how?  Do all U.S. citizens have equal opportunities to achieve the American Dream? What do you base your opinion on?  Is the belief in the American Dream necessary to society? Why/why not?

Let’s take a look…..  At what some other people think about the American Dream.   Opinions and thoughts on the video you just viewed? Let’s share quickly.

The American Dream Collage Project  Task Students will create a collage that represents their individual and personal definition and interpretation of the American dream.  Fotor.com – use this website to create your collage  Requirements In order to successfully complete the assignment, the following requirements must be met:  The collage must have a title. Your title should be creative (something other than, “My American Dream Collage”)  The collage must include at least 10 images (this is the minimum) related to your American Dream. Your images should be trimmed and arranged appropriately for this project. Don’t just slap images on the slide. All images must be school appropriate (no nudity, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc.).  The collage must be accompanied by a well-written explanation of the images included in the collage. You must explain what the image represents and how it applies to your American Dream. You must also include an explanation as to how you will achieve this dream. The explanation can either be handwritten or typed.

Scoring of the Project CATEGORY4321 Attention to Theme (Written Portion) The student gives a reasonable explanation of how every item in the collage is related to the assigned theme. For most items, the relationship is clear without explanation. The student gives a reasonable explanation of how most items in the collage are related to the assigned theme. For many of the items, the relationship is clear without explanation. The student gives a fairly reasonable explanation of how most items in the collage are related to the assigned theme. The student's explanations are weak and illustrate difficulty understanding how to relate items to the assigned theme. Number of Items The collage includes 10 or more items, each different. The collage includes 7-9 different items. The collage includes 5-6 different items. The collage contains fewer than5 different items. Creativity All of the graphics or objects used in the collage reflect a degree of student creativity in their display. Most of the graphics or objects used in the collage reflect student creativity in their display. Only a few graphics or objects reflect student creativity, but the ideas were typical rather than creative. None of the graphics or objects reflects student creativity. Design Graphics are cut to an appropriate size, shape and are arranged neatly. Care has been taken to balance the pictures across the area graphics are lacking in design or placement. There may be a few white spots or blurry images. 3-4 graphics are lacking in design or placement. Too much background is showing. Graphics are not an appropriate size shape. White space dominates. Most of the background is showing. It appears little attention was given to designing the collage. Time and Effort Much time and effort went into the planning and design of the collage. It is clear the student spent his/her time wisely. Class time was mostly used wisely. Student could have put in more time and effort into the project. Class time was not always used wisely, but student did do the basic requirements. Class time was not used wisely and the student put in very little effort. Rubric
