Recent Activities:  2010: II Meeting of the Technical and Scientific Committee and standardization of reporting for marine turtles in the SEP.  2011: Assessments - National diagnostics for establishing a baseline on the populations of marine turtles in the SEP  Oct. 6-9 th : Training field course on collection of biological parameters of turtles (Panama)

Plan of Action for the Protection of Marine Mammals in the SEP  1991: States of the Lima Convention adopted the Plan of Action for the Protection of MM y the SEP. Recent Activities  2010: Publication of 5 Pilot Projects on interactions between MM and fisheries  2011: Meeting for the installation of the Regional Scientific and Technical Committee on Marine mammals of the SEP (Focal Points / Work plan )

Marine Mammal Corridors & Critical Habitats of the SEP (UNEP/Spain/CPPS)  2011: CPPS and UNEP signed a small scale funding agreement to implement 2 projects: Design and conduct an economic valuation of selected marine and coastal ecosystem services, and Coordination and implementation of ‘LifeWeb Marine Mammal and Marine Spatial Planning’ project  May 2011: Meeting selected 5 species to be mapped at agreed spatial and temporal scales.  Mapping is in progress with support of GRID-Arendal within the CPPS GIS

SPINCAM (South Pacific Information Network in support of ICAM)  2008: Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project with support of IOC and Gov. Flanders.  2009: Set of Regional Indicators developed for the SEP Recent Activities (2011)  Upgrade Computing facilities for mapping coastal zone data.  Training course on Geonetwork (Col.)  Training course on Cartographic servers and visual tools.  Regional meeting on data repositories and Atlas tools (Panama).

SIBIMAP: Information System for Marine and Coastal Biodiversity  2009: Executive Secretariat initiated a Biological Information System project for the SEP as a complementary toll of SIBIMAP Develop an online tool for management of information on species conservation and MPAs. Provide an interface for mapping of biological and environmental data Provide date for regional cooperation in marine conservation System is based on a Google Earth apps.  This project has collected published and non publish data available, for public use.

MARINE AND COASTAL INVASIVE SPECIES AND BALLAST WATER MANAGEMENT  2008: IMO/UNEP/GEF Project to reduce the transfer of invasive species in developing countries.  2009: A Regional Strategy and a PoA for ballast water management was made.  III Regional Task group meetings have guided the implementation of the project Recent Activities  2011: Workshop on sampling and analysis techniques for ballast water (Valparaiso – Chile).

ECONOMIC VALUATION OF MARINE AND COASTAL ECOSYSTEM SERVICES  2010: UNEP and CPPS initiated a Project on Economic Valuation of Ecosystem Services. Ecosystem base approach for marine resources management. Methodology developed by the MgGill University (Canada) Co financed activity CPPS/UNEP Recent Activities  May 2011: Workshop on Methodology for economic valuation for ecosystem services (Guayaquil)  2 Pilot Projects from the region have been selected to apply the methodology with technical support of McGill Univ.

GPA IMPLEMENTATION AND THE REGIONAL SEAS PROGRAMMES  2006: II Intergovernmental Meeting (Beijing) guidance on Marine Conservation as a toll to reach the Millennium Objectives  2009: Regional Workshop to incorporate the Marine and Coastal issues in the Planning and Budgeting processes in the SEP states. Recent Activities  The Executive Secretariat has presented UNEP a proposal to carry out 5 national workshops related to the incorporation of Marine issues in the planning and budgeting process of each state.
