Jack-o-lantern A man named Jack, who was kept out of Heaven because he was stingy and expelled from Hell for playing tricks on the Devil, was condemned to walk the earth forever carrying a lantern to light his way.

History of Halloween Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century including Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom as well as of Australia and New Zealand.

Traditions Halloween means "All Hallows Eve", the evening before All Saints. Halloween is a popular event in America , Great Britain and Ireland. Both adults and children alike celebrate All Saints Eve. The children dress up in funny clothes and masks .They go round the houses, ring the door- bells and say: "Trick or treat". People give them some candy, fruit, money, or they play a trick , like writing on windows with soap, ringing door-bell, spray shaving cream on cars, dumping garbage can.

Trick or Treat in Halloween. Trick-or-treating, also known as guising, is a popular activity among children on Halloween, in which kids dress up in spooky costumes and knock door to door for treats. It has become socially expected that if one lives in a neighborhood with children one should purchase treats in preparation for trick-or-treaters. It is a funny concept and one of the main traditions of Halloween. The activity is popular in the US and UK and is fast catching up with the rest of the world.

Halloween Games

1. Snap Apple Instead of bobbing for apples in a bucket of water (which can really wreak havoc on costumes or face paint!), have kids try to "snap" a bite from an apple hanging on a string. You'll need apples with stems—tie the string to the stem, then loop it around a tree branch (outside) or a broomstick or suspension curtain rod (inside).

2. Pumpkin Bowling. Choose smallish pumpkins with short stems (depending on the ages of your party guests). Set up 1- or 2-liter plastic bottles and tape off a starting line for an instant bowling alley. Fill the bottles with a bit of sand or rice if they topple over too easily. You can also have kids decorate the bottles with stickers, markers, and other art materials.

3. Ghost walk This game should have at least 4 players. One player is the walker and the other players are the ghosts. The walker has a tray with items that can fall but won't break. The walker must balance the tray and walk through the room without dropping anything. The ghosts job are to scare the walker without touching him/her. The walker wins if they can make it from one end of the dark room to the other without dropping the items on the tray!
