1 Halloween! By Yashira and Josep

2 Where does Halloween come from?
Halloween began as an ancient Celtic festival in Great Britain and Ireland, and has survived most strongly among Irish, Scottish and Welsh communities. Immigrants from these communities carried the tradition to North America where it has gained in popularity

3 When is Halloween celebrated?
A vigil for the festival was held on All Hallows Evening on October 31st. In the vernacular of the times, All Hallows Evening became Halloween and later the Halloween we know today

4 what is the origin of the word Halloween?
The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before ALL HALLOWS DAY.

5 Name some Halloween traditions
Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?"

6 What is a Jack-o-lantern
A jack-o'-lantern is typically a carved pumpkin. It is associated chiefly with the holiday of Halloween and was named after the phenomenon of strange light flickering over peat bogs, called ignis fatuus or jack-o'-lantern. In a jack-o'-lantern, typically the top is cut off, and the inside flesh then scooped out; an image, usually a monstrous face, is carved onto the outside surface, and the lid replaced. At night, a light is placed inside to illuminate the effect

7 what is trick or treat Trick-or-treating is a customary practice for children on Halloween in many countries. Children in costumes travel from house to house in order to ask for treats such as candy(or, in some cultures, money) with the question "Trick or treat?". The "trick" is a (usually idle) threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given

8 Explain a game played In Halloween
trick-or-treaT costuME PARTIES, carving jack-o'-lanterNS bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, watching horror films.

9 Show some typical food for Halloween.
Because the holiday comes in the wake of the annual apple harvest, candy apples (known as toffee apples outside North America), caramel or taffy apples are common Halloween treats made by rolling whole apples in a sticky sugar syrup, sometimes followed by rolling them in nuts.
