Travel and Tourism management On Woolacombe beach

Introduction  Woolacombe is a seaside resort on the coast of North Devon, England  It is a popular destination for family holidays and is an important part of Natural beauty.  The winter population is very small and it has a great benefit for surfing.

 Woolacombe is renowned for its dramatic coastal cliffs and landscape.  It is a long established attraction in the center of village for holidays.

Woolacombe development plan  Woolacombe: The village is located within the Area of strategic landscape and development.  A premier recreational sports resort provide the main tourist attraction.  6 kilometers south west of Ilfracombe, 7 kilometers north of Braunton.  Main access from Mullacott Cross

Positive impacts of tourism Environmental impacts:  Quality of environment is essential to tourism.  Linked with the construction of general infrastructures such as roads, airports, other tourism facilities, resorts and hotels.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM Trampling impacts on vegetation Trampling impacts on soil Breakage and bruising of stems Loss of organic matter Reduced plant vigour Reduction in soil macro porosity Reduced regeneration Decrease in air and water permeability Loss of ground coverIncrease in run off Change in species compositionAccelerated erosion

Negative impacts on tourism  Negative impacts of tourism development destroys environmental resources and it puts enormous pressure on an area that increases pressure on endangered species.  Impacts such as:  Soil erosion, increased pollution, loss of habitats.

Social impacts Positive:  Great influence on the host societies  Source of international peace & understanding  Respect for local tradition and culture  Social contacts between tourists and local people results appreciation, learning, bonding, respect & liking.

 Negative:  Disruption and erosion of cultural identity and values  Tourism might increase tension, hostility & suspicion  It leads to over-consumption, lack of resources and pollution.

Role of international government agencies  Encourage planning applications of high quality and sustainable design and decisions. It would support sustainable living.  To facilitate green infrastructure and biodiversity  Conserve and enhance designated landscape, quality of life of residents & tourists.

 Conserve the special wildlife habitats and species  To facilitate climate change adaptation and other support initiatives that could increase public awareness, appreciation and actions for both geo- diversity & biodiversity.

Role of national government agencies  National government agencies should contribute towards conservation and enhancement.  Offshore and inshore developments should be fully evaluated for any adverse impacts.

Role of local government agencies  To ensure that the local government policies support the provision of local services.  To encourage environmentally sustainable lifestyles and businesses.  Develop an opportunity based on the natural assets.

National and local economic policy  Strongly support cultural traditions, diversity.  Engage local people at all levels in the management plan objectives and goals.  Promote sustainability in activities and volunteering.

 To ensure that farmers have access to aid and that could result in best possible outcomes.  Increase the amount of woodland for multiple purposes.  To enhance the historic environment with natural beauty.  Maximize health, learning and potential values of strategic footpaths.

Evaluation of effects of economic policies upon tourism  Estimates of tourism activities and tourists are evaluated from a demand model  Rely completely upon strong number of visitors  Good demand model & a good judgment

 Income or value addition are the best measures and evaluation  Supply changes involve quality: a) Quality of the environment b) Local public services and infrastructure c) Nature of tourism products and services

 Change in population = Change in the competitive position of Woolacombe  It depends on both origins and destinations  Tourism industries depend on fresh air quality and visibility  Tourists attraction: -  E.g.: Outdoor recreation, camping development, a factory outlet mall

Political changes affect travel & tourism  Serious impacts on the prospects for the tourism industry  Radical changes in country politics causes fear for their safety and destruct the country

 Results could be changed with increased stability  Political change either increase or decrease the attractiveness for tourism  It could have better outcomes as well with the governmental actions.

Strategies to minimize negative economic, environmental and social impacts  Cope up with the impacts of changing climate  Maintain sustainable development

 Decrease vulnerability  Take an advantage of opportunities that climate change Set up process: Carbon footprint: Mitigation purposes Development planning, procurement strategy

 Climate change: Raise awareness of causes and impacts of potential responses  Behavioral changes: Promote behavioral changes  Influence regional and local planning authorities to ensure the future operational carbon footprint.
