Post Flood Scenario 155,142 houses washed away/ 2,045,484 partially damaged Most of the people back to their lands: built roof over their heads; living in make shift houses in many places; (houses washed away) Many families lost houses to river erosion and many houses washed away: need shelter (DER assessment to identify) Emphasis on existing practices in terms of design and house building materials (DER assessment) Indigenous flood proofing mechanisms to be promoted

Donor Response DFID: $3.7 million Norwegian Govt: $200,000 Assistance mainly for the rural areas NGOs to be the implementing partners: Starts by beginning of October

Economic Recovery Objective: Help rebuild local infrastructure, employment opportunity, restore livelihood, reduce vulnerability reduction leading to poverty reduction, reduce environmental degradation. Post flood Scenario: Lack of work opportunity: no crop in the field; infrastructure broken down; no food in Haor areas; Need capital to restart the lost business;

Proposed Intervention Cash for Work Programme: Repair community facilities: Feeder roads, flood shelters, raise grounds of growth centres, re-excavate ponds; Each family x 45 to 60 days work: Small interest free or soft loans for income earning opportunity (e.g. small businesses)

Donor Response DFID: $7.2 million, Swedish Gov’t: $460,000 NGOs to Implement the programme
