Hannah Bradley Introduction to Partnership Working

“Partnerships enable organisations to pursue a common vision and work together to achieve more than they could by working on their own… We welcome applications from partnerships, as they can be effective in meeting a need or tackling a problem.” Big Lottery – Good Practice Guide, Working in Partnership SO WHY FORM PARTNERSHIPS? Stronger Together Shared Skills, Expertise & Good Practice Ideas Generation Increase Capacity / Share Resources Manage Risk Increase Access to Services for Service Users And many more…

STRONG FOUNDATIONS ARE A NECESSITY!

This is not an overnight process! Important Considerations to be made Begin with like-minded organisations – Explore Ideas Ensure potential partners are the RIGHT partners Start conversations with key stakeholders Outline a Project Plan Get approval from Board Members / Trustees to ‘pursue in principle’ Develop a formal Project Plan Ensure all parties are aware of their role & responsibilities Get agreement for Board Members & Trustees (document it) Sign Partnership Agreements

Roles & Responsibilities: NB: We are awaiting formal guidance from Big Lottery DELIVERY PARTNERS 1.DELIVER! 2.Ensure your organisation’s compliance to any contract as per agreement 3.Collect & present monitoring & performance information to lead partner (LP) 4.Identify & address any performance failures or quality variations with LP 5.Ensure your trustee board is kept informed of progress 6.Comply with LP databases to ensure transparent, accessible & appropriate information is collated 7.Maintain relationships with LP and ensure communication is regular & transparent – respond within appropriate timescales 8.Contribute to marketing the success & work of the consortium 9.Be responsible for your organisation’s finances associated with the project – control & manage cash flow & present accounts to LP when requested as agreed in partnership agreement 10.Monitor your KPI’s associated with the project

While your organisation has its own part to play in an agreement – remember the benefits of working together & that each organisation must contribute & support the others to be successful.

PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTS Can soon become Dis-Agreements if you don’t get it right! Should Include: Purpose or aim of the partnership Who the Lead Organisation is Details of each partner organisation Financial & contractual arrangements Roles & Responsibilities Policies & Procedures Administration, meetings & record keeping Monitoring & Reporting Communication Branding Changes to the agreement & its duration Sustainability Signed Declarations
