C THE PARTICIPLE PREACHERS PREACHING PARTICIPLES SINCE By: Skylar and Lian

What’s a participle? Participle: A verb that acts as an adjective. It modifies a noun or a pronoun. *Tip: The two types of participles are past and present. Present participles always end in –ing. Ex. The cheating player screamed when Lian won. Ex. Skylar looked admirably at her washed car.

Participle Game Gosh, Davis’s crying baby needs a nap! Jack’s running shoes need some Febreeze. The rising sun was the first thing I saw when my eyes opened. The cooked ham made Bethany’s mouth water. George’s favorite snack is a boiled egg and water.

Participle Game How do you plan to pay for the broken window? The dancing duo impressed the crowd and left them in awe. Whenever Sean eats candy, he is like a jumping maniac! All day, Nishant bragged about how his painted artwork won 1 st place. The flattened banana that lay in the street made Saoirse upset.

Quick Comment! Do not get gerunds and participles mixed up! Gerunds are verbs that act as a NOUN! Participles are verbs that act as an ADJECTIVE! Ex. Singing is one of Andrew’s favorite hobbies. Ex. If you need something to punch, punch the punching bag. * Gerunds end in -ing

Gerunds vs Participles Playing chess takes a large amount of brain power. Hating people is much different than disliking them. Removing the wishbone from the turkey is a family tradition. Why doesn’t someone help that poor choking girl? The kidnapped baby was always on the news.

And the winner is.....
