ACX is a marketplace where publishers and authors can create audiobooks. For too long authors have missed out on the digital audio market. If you’re a Rights Holder, you choose how you produce your audiobook— and beginning earning royalties on iTunes, Amazon, and Audible.com. ACX, Amazon, and Your AudioBook

You decide how your audiobook is produced, who narrates it, and whether you sell exclusively through ACX, or through other distribution channels. With Audible exclusive distribution rights, you will earn royalties of 40%. ACX Puts You In the Director’s Chair

First find your book on ACX and claim it. Next create a Title Profile for your book. Search ACX's database to find the perfect Producer to record your book. OR An Audio Publisher searching ACX will message you about buying the audio rights directly from you. In addition to the royalties on sales (up to 40%, depending on whether you grant Audible exclusive distribution rights and if you enter into a Royalty Share Deal with a Producer), ACX will give you a special Bounty Payment. Every time your audiobook is the first purchase by an AudibleListener™ member at Audible.com, ACX will pay you an extra $50. That's in addition to your base royalty! Begin Now!

Step 1. Confirm you have audio rights for your book by checking your print book contract. If you have the audio rights, then for purposes of ACX, you are a Rights Holder. Step 2. Create a Title Profile on ACX. Describe your book and the type of narrator best suited for it. You'll also post a short (one or two page) excerpt from your book. This will serve as the Audition Script so you can hear potential narrators. The Title Profile serves as an ad for your book on ACX Producers and narrators. Explain your audiobook marketing plan, the tone of the book, its print and eBook sales success, and why you believe a narrator might find this a fun and profitable project. How Does ACX Works for Authors?

Step 3. Post your book so Producers (narrators and studio professional) and audiobook publishers can contact you. Or … Hold your own casting call! Listen to sample narrations already posted by actors and invite a handful to audition for your book. Step 4. Review auditions from interested Producers. Find a Producer

OR B) You may receive an offer from an audiobook publisher to buy the audio rights for your book directly from you. If you decide to work with an audiobook publisher outside of ACX, you must remove the book from ACX by deleting the Title Profile. See the Book Posting Agreement for complete terms Step 5. There are two ways to make a deal: A) You can make an Offer to a Producer to produce your audiobook by sending the Producer a Production Offer Page. If the Producer accepts the Offer, you have a deal on ACX. Make a Deal

The audiobook production process begins. This will last about 3–8 weeks. The Producer will let you know, through ACX, when the first fifteen minutes of your audiobook is complete. Take this opportunity to listen to the narrator's performance, the quality of the recording and editing, and offer guidance. Begin Production

Step 7. If you aren't satisfied the first time you listen to your completed audiobook, you can ask the Publisher to make up to two rounds of corrections, or edits. When you're happy (after your first listen, or following the first or second round of edits), the Producer is paid. (Unless the Producer has agreed to forego payment for a Royalty Share deal.) If—despite the checkpoints along the way—you are still unhappy with the final project after two editorial rounds, you can cancel the production. However, please note, that a “kill fee” may apply. Approve the Final Product

Step 8. ACX distributes your audiobook through Audible, Amazon, and iTunes. If you grant us exclusive distribution rights, we alone will oversee distribution of your audiobook. If you choose to grant non-exclusive distribution rights, then you can distribute the audiobook through additional channels, however, any outlets outside of ACX will have to be arranged by the author independent of ACX. (Note: the royalty you earn is higher if you agree to distribute it only through ACX.) Distribute Your Audiobook

Step 10. Earn royalties - US authors will receive a monthly royalty statement and payment from Audible via check or direct deposit, and UK authors will receive payments quarterly by direct deposit to the account of your choice. Step 9. Promote the availability of your audiobook to your fans. Promote and Earn royalties

Here's your chance to provide directions or advice to Producers who may audition for this book. It is also a good place to make your book as appealing as possible to ACX Producers. For example, you can include marketing information, selling points, best-seller status, awards, foreign language translations and reviews. Additionally, please include information about the Author's reach and fan-base (i.e. 5,000 followers on Twitter, 8,000 fans on Facebook). Additional Comments

By providing an audition script, Producers will be able to supply you with their best performances for your work. Please choose to upload your audition script or type in the audition script. You must provide only a small excerpt of your book. Upload your Audition script (we usually load chapters 1-3 of the PDF file): Audition Script

Note Your Book’s Word Count

You can pay the producer a per-finished-hour fee or simply share royalties with your producer. If unsure, click both options. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to find the right Producer for you. You can always change your mind and DO NOT need to commit until you are ready to make a formal offer to one of the producers. How Will You Fund Your Audio Project?

Exclusive distribution through Amazon, Audible and iTunes (40% royalty) If you choose Royalty Share option above, your audiobook must be exclusive to ACX. Under this model, ACX has the exclusive right to distribute the audiobook. If you choose this option, the audiobook cannot be distributed by any entity except ACX in any market or format. Non-Exclusive distribution (25% royalty) Your audiobook will be sold through Amazon, Audible and iTunes via ACX, as well as wherever else you choose. Under this model, you can grant distribution rights to parties other than Audible in any market and any format. What Type of Distribution Do You Want?

ACX and Audible are subsidiaries of Amazon. All titles made into audiobooks on ACX will be sold by three of the leading retailers of digital content: Audible, Amazon, and iTunes (where Audible is the exclusive audiobook supplier), as well as the global partner sites of each. How Are ACX, Audible, and Amazon Connected?

Each retailer of your audiobook independently prices your book and determines its price in their store. While not always the case, the regular price on Audible.com for the product is generally priced based on its length, as follows: under 1 hour: under $7 1 – 3: $7 - $10 3 – 5 hours: $10 - $20 5 – 10 hours: $15 - $25 10 – 20 hours: $20 - $30 over 20 hours: $ To be clear, although the above represents general guidelines as retailer of audiobooks sold on Audible.com, Audible retains the sole discretion to set the price of the audiobooks it sells.
