Some Guidelines on How to Deliver a Good Presentation
Presentation transcript:

Comments from your last final presentation (fall 2011)

Presentation Skills Be relaxed and attentive Do not memorize your presentation Present to all the members of the audience, not just to one person (e.g. client) Don’t speak too slow or too fast Minimize reading from your card notes Don’t get mad at evaluators Minimize use of “uhs” and “ums”

Presentation Skills (cont.) When referring to a client or a member of the audience, make sure to use the appropriate title (e.g. Dr. Cheon) Try not to use any spanglish (e.g. “bueno”, “este”) Keep eye contact with your audience Be able to answer questions Minimize extraneous motion

Presentation Flow Don’t forget to introduce your team members Introduce the problem and purpose of the project Have a well defined and structured presentation (i.e. story telling) Don’t jump a lot between different presenters

Presentation Flow (cont.) Keep track of the time when presenting (5 min. per person, 5 min. demo) Use appropriate exits (transitions between presenters) Finish your presentation with a strong conclusion

Content Make sure to understand your project Do not have too much or too little content to present (e.g. one team member presents all the diagrams and another just the introduction) Make sure that your terminology and definitions are correct Present all of your main diagrams (e.g. class and subsystems diagrams)

Diagram Presentation Explain how to read your diagrams (i.e. quick overview of diagram notation) Explain what type of diagram is being presented Keep story telling when presenting your diagram Check for consistency in diagrams

Diagram Presentation (cont.) Don’t say “I don’t know how to fix this diagram”. Try it! Use clear, big, and organized diagrams (e.g. use high quality or vector-based diagrams) Use the same level of abstraction within the same diagram Don’t make your diagrams too abstract

Miscellaneous Handouts – Make sure your handouts are complete and updated Slides – Don’t forget titles – Check your grammar

GET ENOUGH SLEEP THE DAY BEFORE YOUR PRESENTATION!!!
