St Anne’s: Ofsted Summary

Why is St Anne’s in Special Measures?  Achievement is poor. Progress is inconsistent  Some weak teaching observed and over a sustained period of time will be the cause of insufficient progress in writing  The more able do not make sufficient progress because tracking has been poor over time  Progress for those who are eligible for the pupil premium is poor  In some classes at times differentiation is poor and pace of learning is slow  Issues with the number of Headteachers and monitoring by Governors

What does St Anne’s need to do to improve further?  Improve the quality of teaching so that it is consistently good or better by: Accurately assessing pupils attainment Raising expectations of what all pupils can achieve and setting tasks appropriate for their needs Ensuring the pace of learning in all lessons is fast enough to ensure good progress  Raise achievement in writing by: Providing more opportunities for pupils to write at length across the curriculum Ensuring the writing policy is consistently applied in all classes  Improve leadership and management by ensuring that: Weaknesses in teaching are eliminated rapidly with checks implemented Performance management is linked to achievement and includes CPD

Improve the quality of teaching  To raise the quality of teaching to 100% good-outstanding 1. Every member of the teaching staff to be observed at least 4 times before the end of the academic year by SLT 2. Targets set, support given and progress monitored (pupil progress meetings and i-tracker)  To raise the quality of planning 1. Every member of the teaching staff to submit weekly plans that include clear objectives, differentiation and success criteria 2. Every member of teaching staff to have a scheme of work covering skills, attainment levels, cross curricular links

Improve the quality of teaching  TAs will be used appropriately in lessons to raise standards 1. Teachers will give clear direction to their TAs 2. Improving the achievement of pupils and improving the use of performance data  To monitor progress and attainment of specific groups such as: Higher Achievers, SEN, EAL, Ever 6, FSM 1. Analysis of individual classes by teachers 2. Analysis to be discussed in pupil progress meetings  To develop intervention strategies to close the gaps  SENCos to work with teachers, support staff and SLT to establish good interventions to move children’s learning on

Improving the achievement of pupils and improving the use of performance data  For teachers to use performance data to set targets for individual children 1. Discuss progress in team meetings every 6 weeks and set targets for pupils  For SENCos to monitor interventions and provision maps to insure impact is being achieved 1. Support for SEN/SENCo from SLT, ELT and external advisor 2. SENCo monitoring timetable planned on annual plan 3. SENCOs to analyse SEN data on tracker and feedback to SLT as planned  To improve formative assessment of writing (Spring Term) and numeracy (Summer Term) 1. Introduce assessment grids for writing 2. Half termly pupil progress meetings in each key stage 3. Audits on planning and marking
