First Aid for Minor Injuries Minor Burns Cool with cold running water 5 minutes until pain subsides Loosely cover burn with sterile bandage, no ointment Take OTC pain reliver

First Aid for Minor Injuries Chemical burns Flush chemical from skin with cool running water 20 minutes Remove clothing/jewelry that has been contaminated Apply cool wet cloth Wrap burned area with a dry, sterile dressing Rewash the burned area

First Aid for Minor Injuries Cuts and Scrapes Stop bleeding by applying pressure with a clean cloth Clean wound with clean water Apply antibiotic ream or ointment to keep wound moist Cover wound with bandage Change bandage once a day or whrn wet or dirty Watch for infection (redness, pain, drainage, warmth, swelling)

First Aid for Minor Injuries Sprains & Strains (RICE) Rest injured part of body Apply Ice or cold compress 10-15 minutes at a time for first 48 hours, reduce swelling Wear elastic Compression bandage at least 48 hours, reduce swelling Keep injured Elevated above heart level, reduce swelling

First Aid Heimlich Maneuver removes food or other obstacles from a person’s airway if someone is chocking Stand behind the person. Wrap your arms around the waist. Tip the person forward slightly. Make a fist with one hand. Position it slightly above the person's navel. Grasp the fist with the other hand. Press hard into the abdomen with a quick, upward thrust — as if trying to lift the person up. Perform a total of 5 abdominal thrusts, if needed. If the blockage still isn't dislodged, repeat the five-and-five cycle.
